  • "mountain ash that pheasent is lovely how big is he?" - sorry, not got this quote thing quite right.

    Hi Maria,

The finished design is 7 inches square (or 18 cm square if you work in metric). The piece of evenweave that I'm working him on is 12 inches square, and the magazine recommends a frame 22 or 23 cm square. You don't need a mount because of the fancy border, you see.

Did some last night and another half hour or so this morning, so am getting there slowly.

    Have a good day, everyone.

Posted this later on last night but would really appreciate some thoughts on it before I part with my cash (and my sanity)

"Have been lurking around the HAED site and really like this one (fingers crossed link works) I know it will take me forever and will probably drive me mad but it is for me and not for anyone else for a change - any thoughts (and any idea how many years it will take me?)

Haven't bought it yet though! Just really tempted"

It's an amazing piece but very large and it's meant to be worked on 25 count! Could you stitch it in "chunks", say 2 months on it then one month do a smaller pattern, then back to this one. Or divide it into smaller areas on one page and spread them across the months as above.

(sorry I've not worded this very clearly but I hope you get the gist).

Anyway what I'm really saying is "go for it". Life's too short to agonise over this sort of thing, be kind to yourself and take on the challenge.

    Linda

(sorry again, this sounds pompous but it's meant to be gently enouraging!) ;)

I agree Dora, give it a try. We'll be here for encouragement and think how proud of yourself you'll be when it's finished.

I'm still trying to do this vest. Got a bit more done last night and now the little angel is asleep again but I have to get ready to go out so I can't take advantage of the quiet time. Maybe today will tire her out a bit and I'll get to it again later.

    Have a good day all,

 Went to post a message last night and lost internet connection as soon as I hit 'submit'. Tried for an hour to get it back with no luck so gave up and went to bed :D

Anyway.....here's the Hedgehog that took about 10 years to complete ( I wasn't stitching everyday for 10 years, I started it and put it down for 10 years, got put off by the hedgehog's back so gave up :o) and finally got finished for Rubys Xmas present but didn't get given at xmas because the frame broke! I got a frame at the weekend and I'll be finally delivering it tomorrow when I visit.

It doesn't look as great to me as I would like because for those 10 years it was left in a frame with the fabric pulled tight so the fabric has stretched. Lesson learnt there though!

    Morning all

Well I have cleaned the windows and vacumed this morning -so the rest of the day is MINE ALL MINE :D an I have allready done some sewing :A:rotfl:

Dorastar -I agree too ...Im sure that if it's something you really really love then you will get it done! just imagine getting it done and hanging it on the wall :j
The Orange lady Im doing at the moment is a chart I fell in love with and I got the chart about 5 years ago and I still love her just as much now as when I first saw here. I know its not everyones taste but I KNOW I will get her done -even if there is loads of 1 stitch of this and 1 stitch of that :p

Lelc-that pic is so lovely and colourful and everyone is right -you will never know that it has been cropped *well you will -just don't tell anyone else ;)*

Ruth -So sorry you are having such a time of it at late.. re the will -or lack of -when my mama died my mum was executor and even though mama hadn't seen her sons family in decades (her son died a long time ago) -mum had to put a piece in the paper in an attempt to find his children as they were entitled to his share) -in the end no-one came forward so it was just split between mum and her sister...I swear the trouble of sorting it all out nearly pushed my mum over the edge (and mamma didn't have lots to divide) ...although she still had receipts from my mums pram etc .,,mum was 68 at the time:rotfl:-never seen so much paperwork
Oh and your step mum is one lucky lady -that you cared enough about her to challenge your dad about his behaviour. Well done to you for facing it head on -it must have been so difficult. Here is hoping that things settle down for you soon and you get some peace

Well I have started a new chunk of pattern -so Im now on her neck -woohoo... more than 2 stitches in any 1 colour at a time :j..right I had better get off and get some more done..
Have a great day everyone :D

  • Hi all hope you are all doing ok today.

Dora it's a lovely pattern not sure I'd be brave enough to try but you give it a go and I'll [STRIKE]fling shoes [/STRIKE]encourage you through it.

Shelly 00020293.gif I love your hedgehog.

Mrsmcawber have a great day with your stitching.

I now have what resembles a pair of wellies and a small bit of the tummy done. Not sure how much I'll get done today as my Auntie is coming over. I think she may run away as she has 3 bags of things plus sewing to take home with her that I forgot to mention!:rotfl:

Have a feeling it will be a lifetime's work but I will carry on stitching other things at the same time - am a 'serial stitcher' anyway with lots fo differen things on the go (am the same with books too!) so best go find my credit card!

Thanks for the feedback, encouragement and thrown shoes:p

Have had head in cupboard this mornign chucking out unnecessary paperwork I have hoarded - why do I have MOT certificates and house insurance letters for cars and houses I no longer own - mental:eek:

Am aiming to get it done by my sixtieth birthday I think, so a nice round 20 years to go - we'll all have a party to celebrate its unveiling lol

Is winging its way by snail mail to me slowly so I have time to take in what I have just decided to do - just breath slowly and it will all be fine

Just a quick post from me today....
Everyone's progress is looking great! Keep up the good work ladies.
Hope everyone who is unwell gets well again soon.

I am doing a weekly update for this Fairy because I think I am going to get this one done much quicker than the other one.

    Here's progress after 1 week....

Do you see the few spaces on the wing for a few stitches? I am supposed to put in french knots which I am usually not too bad at doing but when I tried to do them I just couldn't get them right!
I have thought about using beads instead but then I won't be able to use glass in the frames.
Apart from having another go at the french knots does anyone have any other ideas?
How about buying seed beads the same colour as the thread for the french knots would be? I have done this before when i had loads of knots to do. Looks nice and raised up iyswim?

Have done no stitching but had a lovely me-time day yesterday, got lots of new undies and had lunch and coffee all to myself:Dwas great but missed my kids all the same. No stiiching done as have been busy flying but will take a piccy tonight and no doubt will be asking for instructions on how to post again:o
