Ok so this is where I am at:
    62471138a4f03685df500753bb781de9ad02c78ec3c46affa5e058bca4e72aa07574ec70.jpg

This is my chart so you can see how much I have to do in April:
    06660452bfc3cf18684235aa415e3ad15b3b2316a47997fb3c5b75b4f4bc3ed1e044325a.jpg

I did manage to do about 50 stitches while DS napped this afternoon, that isn't shown.

Have had to order more yellow today as am not convinced I can do the rest of the chart with the amount i have left (about 100 stitches worth!)
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

shelly my flower fairies had loads of french knots and im usless at them so i just put a stitch in in whichever colour the french knot was supposed to be and it looks fine nobody knows any different lol, you have done so much for 1 week are you enjoying doing this one?

I did try a couple of crosses but it looked weird. Might look better once I get the backstitching done in that area because the french knots/crosses are at the ends of little stalks. I think I'll leave them for now and try again at the end and if I still can't do the knot I'll have to just put in a cross.

And yes, I am really enjoying this one. I really enjoyed the Rose one too but think I am enjoying this one more because once it's done I am doing one for myself! :)

Dora and Shelly I have never once successfully managed a french knot, bloody evil things invented to annoy people

Im a bit stressed tonight, im not enjoying doing this pattern atall and im really annoyed with myself, I was so excited and love the pattern so much but Im just not enjoying it at the moment, I don't think I realised how long it would take either to be honest. It probably wasn't a good idea to not cross stitching for years and then jumping in with this one or any HAED I guess. And now I can't just give up on it or ill feel like ive failed.

I found a couple of french knot tutorial videos online and they really helped. I can usually do them but think on that day I was either not concentrating or trying to hurry. I'll try again once finished and see how I go.

As poppett said, put it down and leave it for a day or two then go back to it. If once you go back to it you still don't like it try stitching something else, a small project just for a change then go back to it.

Bubbles - nice one, :T good to see everyone's personal challenge.

I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this one but at least it will motivate me.

When I read through the posts this morning I spotted the challenge. I love a challenge and thought that I could complete my underwater world by the end of April - so I picked it up to carry on with it. However something didn't seem right and eventually I realised that I've not started in the middle for some bizarre reason and instead started too far over to the left. This means I'm going to run out of cloth. I don't know how I didn't spot this before and I'm really annoyed with myself because I've completed about 3/4 of it. The only thing I can think of doing is trying to cut the design short to fit onto the cloth but this is going to take some thinking about as I'm not sure I want half of a fish at the edge of the picture - iyswim! Has anyone any ideas?

Oh no, sorry to hear that, that must be so frustrating!!

Can you post your progress and the final pic so we can perhaps have a think and try and help (maybe)

Sorry to hear that as well Emy. If you're not enjoying it you need to give yourself a break, then when you go back to it have a good look at the pic so you 'fall in love with it' again.

I am assuming it is a really BIG design? What count fabric is it on?
All I can recommend from my own HAED's is blocking it off, and taking it page by page and methodically working through it.

  • Wow i've missed so much not being here for nearly a week, soooooo many pages to read. I got through them all, was about to type a post and then was made to go fix the internet on my parents pc, and then got distracted tidying and sorting out stuff.

So sorry for not responding to people individually, but as i read about 15 pages, and that was about 4 hours ago i just cant remember what I read. But i must say theres some really lovely designs people are getting on with.

I started Elliot back at the beginning of March and finished the main part of him ages ago- just never got round to taking a photo. But the backstitching is giving me no motivation to do- i have loads of back stitch and french knots left to do.

Here's how it looked on the 3rd of April

    tumblr_kz0ulwuvF11qaf2sl.jpg

And here's where I am now with it.

    tumblr_l0fg7bFB2N1qaf2sl.jpg

I was planning on finishing it and doing another one, abit more detailed but the same size before my nana's birthday on the 20- somthing of this month. but i have no motivation for anything right now so i might not start the second as i cant see me getting it done before her birthday (she is getting other presents from me too).

After im done with the elephant prezzie/s i think ive found all the bits for the L.S Lowery tapestry i started before christmas, then put down to get chrismasy stuff done and it just ended up a UFO.

I bought it because it was half price and i love Lowery style paintings, i figured i liked cross stitch so would like doing the tapestry as its "only half crosses" but argh it does my head in. Te canvas is large- and i cant put it on any of my hoops as its sort of plasticy, but its not rigid enough to feel ok when sewing on it. And the damn wool snags all the time.

Oh yea and last month i found im doing it wrong- the way ive been making the stitches should be different to allow for maximum coverage. There's no way im pulling it out tho it looks ok to me in terms of coverage.

I'll post my ufo before starting it- well if that's ok, its not cross stitch but i dont think theirs a "tapestry" thread here so i'll post it here if that's ok with people. Its near enough cross stitch... kind of.

This has reminded me that I did an LS Lowry tapestry (well, needlepoint) about 16 years ago and it's still in my "finished needleworks" drawer. Must get it out and take a picture. I do remember I enjoyed it but no idea why I didn't get it framed.

P.S. at the very moment you were writing your post I was finishing the last few stitches on a vase of peonies and debating whether to go to bed or start the backstitching! (I went to bed).

Wow, you lot have been chatty this weekend!

I've been away for Easter and have just got back and read your 20 pages. I can't remember most of what is going on, and I'm going to decide what my challenge will be. I could nearly go for completing Santa (without beads or 'snow on the ground') by the end of the month but I think it's a little ambitious.

I find out today whether or not I have a job to go back to, and the result of that will have a huge impact on my stress levels and my available time.

Sorry I can't say much in response to what you've all been up to, there's just too much to remember. There has been some great progress though, and I'll post my own update later.

I have finished the main part of 'New Shoes cure the blues'. All the cross stitch is done and the majority of the back stitch. But there's quite a few french knots to do and then some lazy daisy stitches...well, I just couldn't be bothered with faffing about doing those yesterday, so I got out my UFO box.

I had a look for the motorbike kit that my Grandma always used to ask me about. No idea why this particular kit stuck in her head, but quite often she'd ask if I'd finished it yet. I know part of it was missing from the bag, but wasn't sure what. The fabric & chart were there, but it's missing the threads. It's a PINN kit, so no idea what brand of threads they use. There was an extra skein of black thread in the bag, so I've now stitched all the black that I can on the kit. It's not much, but it's that bit closer to being completed now. :D

Off to see Amy Macdonald in concert tonight, so probably won't get much stitching done today.

Here is my update as promised. It's been just over a month!

Here is where I was March 5th
    2010Mar5th.jpg

And here is today, I didn't take my frame apart this time so it's only the lower half.
    santa6-4-10.jpg

I'm think I've decided that my challenge is 'to complete Santa (without 'snow on the ground' metalics or beads) by the end of the month. And to have him fully completed by the end of May.
