um, i've now bought 3 new and 2 second hand Xstitch magazines. i'm really enjoying daydreaming with them! but they do cost too much really.

So i'm thinking about this offer for Cross Stitcher magazine. this website offers it at 3 for 1quid, with free gift, and it says that as its a trial you can cancel... but is it too good to be true? does anyone have experience of this or this type of offer? http://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.u...e.asp?sid=4807

also, does anyone know that if i take it up, do i cancel the DD after the first payment of 1pound it taken, or wait till i've had all 3 mags, which will probably be the end of july!?? i'm not being tight but i really can't afford to move on to the usual DD subscription, and it afterall a trial.
    thanks for any help.

Do you have a loyalty card for a certain blue and white supermarket ? If you do, check out their loyalty club website when you next get your reward vouchers. You can convert your vouchers into a magazine subscription and I am sure they had a cross stitch publication on their list (can't remember which one).

I have seen subscription offers for various mags where you trial the mag with a subscription for 3 issues at just a pound. I did take up a similar subscription for a food mag (6 issues £1 each or something) reverting to normal subscrption price afterwards. I didn't cancel after the special offer as it was a birthday gift and the first year is all paid for. It might get cancelled before its due again though !

I think its a clever marketing ploy because there must be quite a few who forget to cancel the subscription and once they have your bank details, its like an open invitation in my opinion !

If you look at most subscription offers, the best deal is typically always the direct debit one....

I just used my clubcard points to get my aunt a supscription to knit today magazine. I'm now saving my points for when my subscription to cross stitcher runs out I'll renew it with a voucher.

I'd have a go at the 3 issues for a £1 but as Louise says make sure you cancel if you don't want to carry on. I got a lovely mini sewing machine when I subscribed.

I'm now considering canceling my regular order of cross stitch crazy and world of cross stitch at the newsagents and perhaps just subscribing to one of them but I can't make my mind up which, or perhaps I should get both I'd still save a little. (please be warned that the last statement is not a money saving idea:rotfl:)

Thrifty glad your stitching is going well, and with gordon whatever will the neighbours say! ;) Sorry your DS is being a pain but judging by my 2 it's in their job desciption!

mummipig why don't you pull up a chair honey and join in. It's lovely here I've only been posting a couple of days and everyone is so nice and welcoming. It's a great thread :T:T

Thanks for the welcome..I was tired of lurking in the shadows :rotfl:

And thanks everyone for the magazine advice - i think i'll get the trial offer, that way i can really try them out - i'm worried i'll get overwhealmed with too many 'i'll do that next' projects! so if that happens i can just cancel.

Thanks for mentioning the x-s magazines, I've been tempted for a while and had a furtive look at them all in Smiths but still can't decide if any of them are for me.

I've got enough Tesco vouchers to buy the Cross Stitcher subscription, could anyone tell me if it is aimed at the beginner and "improving" stitcher or whether they have a good range of projects for the more experienced ?

    Thanks

    Linda xx

PS I'm a sucker for magazines and have to be really strict with myself about resisting those special offer subscriptions for all sorts of mags, not just stitching

I had a gift of Cross Stitcher magazine last year. It is supposed to be aimed at all types of stitcher but I think is perhaps more suitable for beginners and people who like smaller projects.

After having had a years worth I've got a few projects lined up and have now decided to only buy magazines when I see them in the shop and notice a particually good design. (I've bought 1 magazine since November, but been checking all of them every time I go to the supermarket. I have been strict with myself though and am only buying when I see a design that I really love and would actually stitch.)

The Tesco deal for Cross Stitcher is very good and I'd reccomend it for any new stitcher or anyone lacking in confidence with their stitching. The designs included are varied and I've enjoyed my years subscription. I have not renewed as I now have a pile of magazines to flick through when looking for inspiration, and I decided to spend my clubcard points on my AA membership instead.

If Cross Stitch Colection ever comes to Clubcard then I might have a much tougher time saying no as those are the designs that I'm currently more interested in.

(This whole post is purely my opinion and should not be taken as fact that will be true for everyone!)
