Hello :j Can I join you ?? I am a big cross stitch fan. I dont get the chance to stitch as much as I would like and I have many UFOs!

I sorted my cross stitch supplies recently and decided that I will try to work through my UFOs and started this mission with a christmas santa that I have been stitching on green aida. it was featured in Quick and Easy cross stitch mag and was one of a set of four (snowman, reindeer, penguin yet to be stitched....)

My "bus" kit is currently a bookworm bookmark that I am stitching for a friend's birthday. This was featured in cross stitch gift shop and I am using one of the anchor variegated threads which makes it nice and easy to stitch.

One thing I have been puzzling about recently and I would be interested to hear your input is how best to sort my threads. When I first started stitching, I always bought dmc threads but as and when I have seen a project using anchor threads, Ive bought them as well. I have many many threads now which are just loose. So I have no idea what theads I have. Thus when I see a project I like, I typically end up buying the threads rather than checking to see if I have them first. If a design calls for a particular shade of grey then I buy the thread it states rather than use whatever I have already.

I never really got on with the dmc gold concept thread box system and those A4 plastic pockets with about 12? thread shaped holes in (found too fiddly and a nightmare to get the threads stored in the first place). So I would be interested to hear how other stitchers store their threads (and indeed note what ones you have). do you create a list on the computer for example?

Look forward to hearing from you

    Hi FunFairPrincess :) welcome

Right I really need some help please ladies..
My design has some parts where it is only one stitch of a colour or two stitches, the first 20 by 20 square has loads like this...how on earth do I start and finish a thread when im only doin one stitch or 2 stitches in that colour?

And Mountain Ash Glad you had such a great time

Depending on how much thread you have available, I would use one strand of thread folded together. (loop method?) Thus when you make that one and only stitch, you can catch the thread at the back. I would then (prior to cutting the thread) just run the needle with thread under the stitch you have just made to catch the thread completely (if you see what I mean). The santa design that i have mentioned in my post above has odd cross stitches scattered to replicate the snow and this is how i intend to do mine.

Welcome Flat Eric - I too have lots of threads from lots of different makes and I just wind them onto the cardboard bobbin things and label them up DMC/Anchor or whatever - some don't have an particular label either. Then I just shove them in one of those craft boxes in kind of colour groups ie pinks, yellows, greens etc. I use them up doing odd projects or adapting charts to the colours I have - the fairy one I 'm doing atm is one I've done before and my daughter wanted one so she has chosen the colour of the fairies on hers rather than buy new threads. She also loves the variegated threads which have made sewing a couple of the fairies much quicker. I'm sure there are other ways to sort threads but that works for me

Ohhh, lots of new people - Hello and welcome to you all :D

Mountain Ash - I love that Woodland Enchantress,I have it on my 'Future' Project' list. I say future...I'm probably looking at about 2025 :o :rotfl::rotfl:

Emzy - as mentioned abouve, the loop method would be your bst way to start off the threads, then just stitch under to finish.

Flat Eric - I use bobbins for all my threads. They are labelled and stored in the clear craft boxes in numerical order. Also, I ONLY ever use DMC threads (unless I get a kit which has anchor threads with it) but if I am working from a chart I will convert anchor threads to DMC and use the stash I already have.

:coffee: Why thank you! Mine's tea though-hope that's ok, but it goes better with the chocolates I just found (leftover from my christmas stash! :D)
Haven't managed to do any stitching today. I intended to, but DH discovered another mouse this morning, so we've been tidying up a bit so any other critters can't distroy anything lying around. Been trying to catch up with the weeks of Law & Order SVU on the Sky+ too. Hallmark has been showing 2 episodes every weeknight since Feb, so have loads of watch! With any luck tomorrow I can stitch & DH can read his bike mags & we can have a nice quiet day...fingers crossed! :T

:coffee:Thanks very much - can start sewing after my second dark Earth Hour ( got the date wrong and sat in the dark for an hour last week by mistake!) Was really organised last week too cos kids went to bed early and was only me sat in the dark. This week I'd forgotten to make Emily's bed (high up bed thing) so I now have no idea what colour bedding she has on and I'm not convinced she is actually in proper pj's - will be funny tomorrow morning to find her in her best outfit lol!

Im looking forward to sitting down this afternoon with my stitching. Im not sure which of my many projects I will be doing but I am sure I will find something ! The kit I bought to do for my friend's wedding will be three years late this year so that is top of the agenda although as I haven't stitching properly for ages, I might do a small kit to ease me back in, practice being as neat as possible etc. I hope you all have an enjoyable stitching day :D
