Nikki, that %age refers only to extra oils, butters etc you want to add to the soap. Any more than that and the soap won't lather as much.
There's not really any limit on anything else you want to add though. Oats, seeds, botanicals, coconut etc. are all possible with M&P and the only limit is the amount you like for your personal preference.
Another big positive with M&P is that it's ready as soon as it's cooled - no need to leave for weeks and weeks only to find the soap's not quite right or whatever.

Really? Thats great, definetely going to try this then!0 -
I think it's worth a try, even if it's only to experiment with stuff. You can get small amount of base on eBay if you don't want to buy a lot.
I can recommend https://www.fresholi.co.uk and https://www.soaposh.co.uk for oils/butters etc.

OMG I'm in love he is adorable what kind of wool did you use, I may give him a whirl my mum would absolutely love him as a pressie :j:j Although don't think I'm anywhere near as talented as you are so he could end up a bit wonky :rotfl:
He is knitted in Stylecraft Fantasia which I bought last Saturday from my local craft/wool/sewing shop. It was £2.39 a ball. I went out especially to find a short hair wool as I have tonnes of different eyelash wools, but they were much too long or spiky and not the look I wanted.
I followed the pattern and used the needles specified (size 12) although my Mum sewed him up for me! At the ripe age of 30, you'd think I could have learned to sew by now...
I must add that he knit up really quick, so ideal if you get bored easily like me!
susan42: Thanks for the offer - I would like them to be wood letters. I am just set on making a nice plaque for the baby's door with her name on. I have seen the plaque but don't want to buy it yet until I know whether/what size letters I can get hold of. Thanks again anyway!
BabyFranny: I love things like that, I suppose it's my crafty side. I Sky+ Art Attack and most recently with watching Cbeebies with my 6 month old I have now got into Mister Maker. I just can't wait till she is old enough that we can craft together. I got a book from the charity shop today for 49p with 365 Things to Make & Do... I am obsessed!
I haven't started any more crafts this weekend. My craft room is a dump and it is long overdue a good sort out. Today I finally got a new cupboard and assembled that tonight for all my craft stuff. I will be organising all my craft stuff tomorrow and hopefully everything will have a place and look a look neater. Hopefully then I will be refreshed and ready to get on with some craft.
I have a box I got ages ago that I want to re-decorate, and that will be my box for making cards and filing them in advance for birthdays. I will post details on my blog as soon as I get sorted.
My new craft goodies arrived today. I got my crop-a-dile big bite (was on offer £19.99) and 6x Forever Friends stamps I have eyed up for a while and only got them because they were a good price!0 -
Kevie192 - Thanks will have a look!! You never know I may be brave enough to work with lye soon - just for myself and the lil monster though, both have really sensitive skin so would love to make a soap loaded with cocoa and shea butter. Plus I love the smell of them.
Quick question - is there any major difference between virgin cocoa butter dark and virgin cocoa butter cream? I have only ever used the cream one before.0 -
Hi everyone,
I have had no internet for a couple of days, hence my absence hehehe..
I started to make a ragrug and guess what I ended up with lol..
a bag!!
I figure out that watching tension would be a good idea next time lol... I will post a pic later, but to be honest I was really pleased that I now know how to make bags too hehehehe ( I am one never to look at a project gone wrong in a bad light )

Nikki, the dark one is brown which is it's natural state. I presume that there are bleaching processes to get the cream one.
5% is actually a lot of shea/cocoa butter. This amount gives a beautifully moisturising bar. There's an additive on the Fresholi site called Lamesoft which is a really really good ingredient to use with butters in soap as it increases the skin's potential for moisture retention. I've used 2% lamesoft and 3% shea before with brilliant effects.
If you did want to sell the soaps, a safety assessment is about £150 and that would allow you to make pretty much any 'melt and pour' soap you like. PM me if you'd like any more details.

Sounds like a good book! Is it interesting?
I went to HobbyCraft and got some silver plated wire and some clasps. I made a bracelet with some beads I own and plan to make bracelets for presents all year! I also stitched a small bag/purse to hold my wire/clasps/beads so all is good!I do have a tendency to talk about utter nonsense at the weirdest of times :rotfl:Happily Crafting away in my Fortress of Solitude (Bedroom)
