Today is a tutorial for a crayon roll which would be a great gift for a child, you could personalise it etc.
http://handmadeheartfelted.blogspot.com/2010/01/crayon-roll.html
This could be adapted into a make-up brushes rollOr chunkier for hairbrushes, hairdressing scissors etc
Add some velcro to one side and attach to the outside of a co-ordinating tube pencil case (wrap the bit you make around the outside of the pencil case) and you have a travel make-up kit
Blimey.... my head hurts now :rotfl::rotfl: I'm off for a lie down :rotfl::rotfl:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Hi
i've been lurking on this thread, it's fab, although I'm not too sure about moneysaving! I've just ordered a couple of books from amazon to get me started on melt and pour soapmaking (will have to buy some supplies soon as well).
also, after seeing all the lovely memory wire bracelets on the jewellery thread have purchased some beads and stuff to have a go.
I made snowman soup and bath fizzies and fingerless gloves as gifts at Xmas. They all seemed to go down well! Oh and crochet wash cloths which will look great with my handmade soap when I get started!
I'll have to hide it all from OH, I like to do a bit of knitting and crochet and my yarn stash is starting to take over. Note to self - must stop buying pretty balls of wool!
I love the crayon holder, it would also make a great crochet hook case. Perhaps I should dust down my sewing machine (only used once:o ) and buy some pretty material. Or, i suppose, much more money saving I could cut up some old clothes instead!
Thanks for this fab thread :beer:0 -
karma there are lots of sites that help with M&P soap
in youtube, look for soap queen, its an american programme, and there are LOADS of episodes, and she makes something each one, step by step, lovely funky gifts
I use m&p soap a lot
you can melt it either in a double boiler, but, against my better judgement, the microwave is better
silicone moulds are awesome, i make mini soaps in the ikea ice cube trays, 99p each, bargain! i have many many moulds but have been doing it for years
their loveheart one is great, and i make bath bombs in them as well
the soap kitchen is good for supplies, and they have a "recipies" page
gracefruit is also good for supplies
have a spray bottle of surgical spirit on hand, it disperses any bubbles
and dont be tempted to speed up the hardening process by putting soap in the fridge
once you start you are only limited by your imagination
i amke soaps with slices of loofahs in them, which i grow myself
i made lovely soap "lollies" at christmas for my baskets
**wonders if i am brave enough to attempt to post a photograph??**0 -
oooooooh i so hope this works
i shall just try one to see0 -
this is the loofah soap (on the right) in melon & cucumber fragrance
and an oatmeal milk & honey massage bar on the left
its easy & cheap to make them look fancy0 -
It's not working for me
and I would love to see some photos, your soap sounds fab.
Thanks for all the info. There's not an Ikea near me but I was at a friends house who had the silicon ice tray and I did think it would be fab for bath melts. I've been looking around for silicon bakeware, all I've got at the mo is muffin cases which worked great for the bath fizzies.
Mmmm feels a trip to Ikea coming on, more money saving, not LOL0 -
Sorry, it's working now! They look great!0

the loofah soap is easy
you can buy a loofah in the £ shop
and i used a pringles tube as a mould0 -
I think I could win the award for 'The Best Prepared with the Least Made' category. I have been happy foraging for crafting bits, buying all sorts of things, creating drawer space, storage bins for bits-n-bobs and read books and magazines a-plenty. But very(very) little actual production gong on. I blame work...... if I just didn't have to go to work.....
Love the crayon roll btw, shall go and add it to my 'to-do' list!
