  • I have finshed the scarf I started for my friends birthday. I used a dark purple eyelash wool and plyed it with a fine chenille and a gold lurex thread to make it a bit more special - I hope she likes it. She is a crafter so hopefully will appreciate how much work goes into a HM gift. :D

  • I remember a good few years back - having a girls weekend in Berwick staying at a little cottage - it was supposed to be a walking weekend but ended up being a scarf knitting weekend, we used two types of wendy wool and knitted these together (cosmic and shimmer) and huge needles and made loads for gifts.
It was great fun, Bridget Jones on DVD, Dairy Milk to snack on and knitting in a cute cottage.... lovely!

I am after a small sewing machine for craft purposes, probably just for decorating my cards and possibly light sewing projects?

I've seen an 8-stitch Prolectrix one in Home & Bargain but not sure whether it's any good? It seems a little more advanced than the basic JML mini sewing machine's, which I've had before. There was also this one in TJ Hughes but when I examined it in store, it was really flimsy and certainly not worth paying £30 for.

I don't want a full sized machine as I've had a few and they just get in the way and/or I can't be bothered getting them out because they're too cumbersome.

    Any suggestions/recommendations?

My Mum bought me mine from Dunelm Mill its got 14 stitches and is perfect for what I use it for - small items like hanging hearts, cushions etc and is great for my quilts.

It certainly was the woman in the wool shop didn`t know what had hit her when we piled in eager for yarn supplies!

If anyone is interested in the yarns I used, here are some links, I matched the tones up so they complimented each other perfectly.

I used 6.5mm needles to create each one.

I also attempted a skinny fashion scarf in this

its quite tricky tho so didn`t complete it.... a few months ago I was in York and spotted some similar scarfs on a stall which got me thinking I really should finish mine.

This is what it should turn out like

So many more good ideas - lovely. I just realised that its my friend's birthday this week and so I'v eput my xmas knitting on hold today to knit her a scarf. I have so purple eyelash wool and I'm adding a gold thread so hopefully it will look all sparkly when it's finished.

Everyone keeps mentioning their Dunhelm Mill bargains but we don't have one near here - probably just as well or I'd end up spending money again :rotfl::rotfl:

    They have a website ;)

Which one is yours... the TJ hughes one I gave a link for or the other one? Are they just as bad as each other?
