Thanks jollymummy - it's gorgeous! I love the sound of the racy pink leopardskin interior.
I'm thinking of something along the lines of using old (or I'll age) sepia type maps of the world, sailing ships etc. as that would suit my Dad. Never thought of lining the box with them either.
Unexpected day at home due to snow. Have pre-washed and ironed dark neutral fabrics to cut pieces for the blocks for this wall hanging quilt
I want to do by Christmas (although not saying which Christmas!) only to realise that I needed to do the lighter fabrics not the darker. Arrrgh... Oh well, at least it's a job done for later but it means more of the boring pressing and cutting and less of the fun sewing bit!
PS. This is the first time I've tried . Have beento insert an image. Fingers crossed and apologies in advance...
What a beautiful pattern, Saving Su - Where did you find it?. I used to do quite a lot of patchwork and quilting but couldn't concentrate on it after hubby got ill. Recently have felt more motivated to pick it up again. That design just might get me raking out my fabrics again!!0 -
I wonder if anyone has a easy to follow pattern for fingerless gloves? Ive seen a fantastic pair in the shops that are like mittens but you han flip open the top to make them fingerless. Id like a pair for my 6 year old and a pair for me.
Anyone know of such a free pattern??? but it would have to be easy. and i cant crochet only knit, Id be so grateful as im easy to make it but no idea where to start!
My little girl also loves this, but im sure i can make it for a lot lot less, does anyone have a simple pattern for knitting, it looks like moss stitch? but how would i do the pockets,?

It's from an ebook called A Slice of Christmas by Piece O'Cake (http://www.pieceocake.com/Books/eBooks.html). They have amazing applique designs. The patterns aren't free but I've managed to find some of their books in my local library. This will be the first of their's I've tried.0 -
Hi there,
I have had to restrict my mse time as at the end of last year I was spending so much time looking at this site! Have decided to catch up once a week....trouble is you are all doing so much!
Thanks Liesauk for your ideas earlier.
also wow:T to the fab quilts that you guys are making. I got a sewing machine for Christmas from my mum...totally inspired now to try a quilt...would be fab gift for Christmas.
Will be starting doing some crafting a few weeks as having the place decorated at the mo....all furniture in my craft space in dining room!
eep up the fantastic work!0 -
I agree, the quilts are gorgeous - you are inspiring me although I don't think I am at the stage of being able to make something like that yet!!
Paid a little visit to my local craft shop today and stocked up on wool. I've just started to knit a little cardigan for my 3 month old niece, never made anything like it before so will be interesting to see how it turns out! It doesn't matter when making something to felt if it goes a little bit wrong but not going to get away with it this time! Best not cut any dropped stitches like my mum used to!! :rotfl:

He reminds me of the classic Pooh bear. Very much that style, which I like.
That's a good idea. I have the pattern in front of me now and just waiting for my Mum to drop off some needles later and will make a start! Will post pics when he's done. I'm thinking of making him in a different type of wool too! See how that works.
Hi lil`lp ( if you are around) just wondering how you are getting on with the bear.
I`ve made a start this evening and have knitted his head.
I`m hoping to get to Hobbycraft 2moro ( Hubby driving) to select some more bear coloured wool as the colour I have is more caramel but I wanted to have a go!
The bear is a lot smaller than I first thought looking at the picture but still very cute.
I might even try and wire the limbs so he can move a bit.
I`m making mine for baby`s nursery as their first handmade bear.

This is my first post but I love this thread and you're all brill! :T
Liesa - I got some swatches the other day from Laura Ashley after reading some posts on this thread, and have sewn two of them back to back today to make a little case for my mobile phone. It's the first sewing I've ever done (after an intensive 1 hour lesson from my mum this morning on how to use her sewing machine!) and I'm so chuffed.
I've seen some more ideas on the Martha Stewart website along similar lines:
- handwarmer/cold pack: sewing two together (like a cushion cover) to make (filled with lavender mixed with rice so hand warmer if microwaved or cold pack once been in the freezer)
- tissue holder (I can't post links but search the martha stewart site and they're lovely - perfect for swatches)
- make-up case: sewing two swatches together with a little flap over the top, with a button fastener, for make-up brushes, eyeliner, etc.
I also saw a cool idea for a bookend - open up a teddy bear's bottom and fill with rocks, then sew back up and use to hold books up! I thought of you and your post about removing bear's eyes - not sure which is worse....0 -

Pattern for moss stitch scarf http://knitwithkt.blogspot.com/2007/07/moss-stitch-scarf.html
For the pockets like the boden one I would just knit two moss stitch squares and sew them on to the scarf.

princesspoppypop wrote: »I made this using a square card template I made myself. I then layed the pieces out on the floor to get the layout I wanted. Then sewed each row together on my sewing machine then sewed all rows together. I backed the quilt with a blue fleece I bought from Ikea, inside is some wadding a got from the local habadashery store. You can add a light 4.5tog duvet inside of the wadding.

I love this!! Well done! :T Are you an experienced sew-ist (not sure what the word is for someone who's brill at sewing!) or could a novice such as me manage this?? (Can't post your pics as I'm a newbie) I can hopefully add this to my ever expanding list of things to make............ hurray!
(Thank goodness I started looking at this thread in january this year and not November like last year)
