Hi Elyphant, took me a while to work it out but you just select the fabric you like and then under the quantity you get the free swatch option.

I don't know how many you can get or how often though.

Thanks Sally! I have just caught up with my own post lol! Nearly on the last page now - and loads of great ideas saved, thank you everyone.

By the way, for everyone who is thinking of ways to keep links and stuff, if you go to www.evernote.com and sign up, you can make loads of notes, filed as you want, and it's accessible from anywhere. I love it as it means I can save all those links in categories and don't have them on my favourites on a particular computer or anything. Sorry have not explained very well but worth a look anyway.

ETA: Yay I made it! Am now up to date and will be subscribing to this lovely thread, it's a very friendly spot and looking forward to trying out some stuff.

I have two windows open whoopidoo, one has 13 tabs on and the other has 6 tabs, I have threatened my lot with sudden death if they close either one!!

I think they have withdrawn the swatch option on the page at the moment. I want to do a patchwork throw, anyone got a link please?

  • Finished a 1000 piece jigsaw tonight that I bought my brother for xmas 2009 he got it on the day, but I had to build it - typical... so finished that just need to glue it for him and he can frame it himself (not being mean, he just knows what he likes)

Got to start my dad's 1000 piece - more than likely tomorrow - or saturday.... and he has 2 argh! no chance am i going to get mine done anytime soon.

Started on a scarf for my niece with fluffy yellow and fluffy purple... wasn't sure if it was going to look nice, but actually it looks really nice, it reminds me of a bumble bee, but only purple lol...I have eyelash wool, which is so irritating thinking of just giving it away to mum... it's driving me nuts.....

I can't remember if it was this thread I read a post from mary re: bog standard crafting things... i'm in your team... i haven't spent anymore than £1 on any of my stuff.. I just don't have the money... I have a paper ribber I bought on ebay for 99p and a cutting mat, that i got as part of a set in lidl, but that's about it if i'm honest... no fancy smancy tools - as much as i'd love to - i just wouldn't know where to start even if i had the money....I usually print all my cardmaking stuff off the internet to make some cards for relatives....but would love to have some lovely proper papers and toppers etc... ahh I can dream I suppose :)

My Mum did that jigsaw thing for my present one year - it's a huge framed mosaiced jigsaw of a lion made up of teeny tiny pictures of big cats. Meant so much at the time that she had put the effort into making and framing it for me - she knew I loved the jigsaw but SO don't have the patience to make one up. Means so much more to me now she is no longer here. One of my favourite gifts she ever gave me.

my FIL gets jigsaws for presents from everyone all the time, he seems to constantly have one on the go. I have never seen the appeal myself, i think I am too impatient and yet I have been told that I am really patient with kids. I love crafting and have so much stuff I need a room now... wish I had a spare one lol

  • Saving Su - I made a decoupage box last year for a bloggy pal of mine. I used an old washing powder tablet box, covered it in some old bible pages my pal had sent me. I then applied some vintage lady images and added a few words, ribbons and buttons. She uses it to keep her thread in. I coated it in a glaze to make it more hard wearing. You can't see in these pics but I also lined the inside with racy pink leopardskin paper :)

Wanted to say Hi and that is fantastic Princess Poppy. I'd love to be able to make one for my DD. Can I ask how much it cost to make? Would it be cheaper to buy one (which wouldn't be a disaster like mine)?

    Thanks shirlgirl.
The costs for the quilt were £20 for the material (which is actually new duvet covers I got on offer in The Yorkshire Linen Company - £1.99 for the fleece backing from Ikea and £3.99 for the fleece wadding from Boyes.
I still had loads of material left to make matching cushion, pillowsham and hanging hearts.

Liesa - I made my own template from card and used this to create the squares from the material. This is how I lay out my squares before sewing them all together.

The quilts can be backed in all sorts of material - A simple cotton sheet in a co-ordinating colour would look fab.
Attach a velcro tab to your finished quilt so you can easily remove the inner quilt for washing too.
My pink gingham quilt is made from 10" squares and the one just above is 5" squares.
