I can't remember if it was this thread I read a post from mary re: bog standard crafting things... i'm in your team... i haven't spent anymore than £1 on any of my stuff.. I just don't have the money... I have a paper ribber I bought on ebay for 99p and a cutting mat, that i got as part of a set in lidl, but that's about it if i'm honest... no fancy smancy tools - as much as i'd love to - i just wouldn't know where to start even if i had the money....I usually print all my cardmaking stuff off the internet to make some cards for relatives....but would love to have some lovely proper papers and toppers etc... ahh I can dream I suppose

Do you have a Wilkinsons near you? They are selling craft bits (with the Create & Craft logo on them) from £1 upwards. I think the most expensive thing I've seen is £8. It's good quality stuff too. They sell packs of 8 A4 papers for £1, and 2 die cut decoupage sheets for £1. Not a terribly wide choice, but it might be suitable for you if you just want a few bits at a time.
Not like me, who used to be a total craftaholic and spent roughly £200 a month of hubby's money on craft stuff! (But that's another story....!)Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

The costs for the quilt were £20 for the material (which is actually new duvet covers I got on offer in The Yorkshire Linen Company - £1.99 for the fleece backing from Ikea and £3.99 for the fleece wadding from Boyes.
I still had loads of material left to make matching cushion, pillowsham and hanging hearts.
Liesa - I made my own template from card and used this to create the squares from the material. This is how I lay out my squares before sewing them all together.

Poppy may I say that is one of the most beautiful throws I have seen!
So how many duvet covers did you use? I presume 3 by the pattern? And you just cut the pieces out from your template? How long did it take you Poppy?

Gorgeous quilt Poppy, love the colours, and well done for drawing your own template. I have to cheat and draw around my quilting squares as I can't for the life of me cut straight. Even with using a thick plastic square I sometimes go wonky!
I made my mum a lap quilt for Christmas but I backed the pieced top with a fleece blanket, and quilted through both layers. Took from August until the Sunday before Christmas to do, but at least I finished something!Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

Thanks Liesa - for the pink one I used two quilts - one single double sided gingham one side - polka dots the other and one double - blue/cream floral print.
What I do is pop the template onto the material and cut around leaving a seam allowance then - (and this is my own technique so please dont blame me if you burn your fingers) - fold the edges of the material around the template and iron into place - remove the card and you have a nice neat square with perfect edges. It does take some doing tho especially when you have piles of squares!
I would estimate about 6 - 8 hrs to make up.

Hi everyone
I've just been looking at the Bakerella website at the cupcake pops and I'm going to make some, but it asks for Bark coating to cover the cakes with.
I don't think we can get that over here so what can I use instead? Ordinary cooking chocolate? I know I can't use a bar of dairy milk or anything as it doesn't set properly once it's meltedSealed Pot Challenge Member 1216 -

just a quick note to say thank you to however pointed towards the site with no sew fleece items. Had a play with some leftover fleece and made a bag for my dd2 (didn't measure so not very neat but happy with the idea, plan to make some neater and add some decoration for niece, and friends little girls :-)(Family of 5: 2 adults & 3 children aged 7yrs, 4yrs, and 18months)0

Thanks jollymummy - it's gorgeous! I love the sound of the racy pink leopardskin interior.
I'm thinking of something along the lines of using old (or I'll age) sepia type maps of the world, sailing ships etc. as that would suit my Dad. Never thought of lining the box with them either.
Unexpected day at home due to snow. Have pre-washed and ironed dark neutral fabrics to cut pieces for the blocks for this wall hanging quilt
I want to do by Christmas (although not saying which Christmas!) only to realise that I needed to do the lighter fabrics not the darker. Arrrgh... Oh well, at least it's a job done for later but it means more of the boring pressing and cutting and less of the fun sewing bit!
PS. This is the first time I've tried to insert an image. Fingers crossed and apologies in advance...0 -
