Helen and Douglas House in Henley (oxon) are not too bad on prices and we often pick up some nice jars from them too, and they sell buttons loose which is great when looking for a few to finish something off. I have to confess last year I saw an amazing wedding dress for sale in a charity shop in Wallingford, it had yards and yards of silk, and lace, and beads, petticoats, amazing buttons. It would have provided so much material for crafting, but I could not bear to buy it to cut it up! I hoped a wannabe bride would buy it, so walked away. But still think I might have missed a bargain craft source!

Thank you wanna-b-rich - they are perfect :j Just ordered some - yay!

I usually get my wood cut at our local timber merchants. They cut me any quantity for free, most I have had was 60 pieces cut. I simply pop along find a size they have then ask them to cut me a cube of the size the wood is, does this make sense. I do have to sand them down at home but the cost of the wood is so good I don't mind. If it's a big order I leave them with a list of what I need and then I go back later in the day. I made a set similar to this with all different sizes and there was still no charge for cutting...

By the way they are stickers on the wood not someones talent with a paint brush, These are NOT my blocks just where I got the idea from

Today I am experimenting with tie dye and fabric paint. This is a scientific study to carefully research how to get the best effects, and not merely an excuse to have a mighty good play with paints and elastic bands! (honest)

Thanks sethsgran - those look perfect. I tried our local builders merchants (parked in between all the white vans, wandered around looking totally out of my depth among the men in overalls and woolly hats ) and asked one of the staff there to chop a nice piece of wood I'd found in the warehouse (5cmx5cm sq, about 2m long). He said they couldn't go that small because of "health & safety" and he may accidentally cut his hand off! Fusspot ;). Good suggestion to try a proper timber merchant though - hopefully they won't be such scaredy cats with a saw (or am I being mean?!) Lucy x
