  • Mmm, not too sure about my melt and pour soap. couldn't wait for my new oils arriving so decided that lavendar and tea tree would be fine. I melted the soap base in the container it came in (not a good idea) much too flimsy and difficult to get in the corners. will use pyrex jug next time. added seaweed powder and it all clumped together, instructions do say to mix powders first with a small amount of water! (note to self, read instructions FIRST not when things go wrong)

I had to keep re-heating it as it kept solidifying, it's full of air bubbles as I don't have any surgical spirit to spritz it with. So, a bit of a disaster/learning experience but it smells nice so I'll just stick it in the bathroom. not sure what folk will think of the bits in it :rotfl:

Brilliant - thanks, saving all these and will take her shopping. May have a bash myself. Once sealed does it keep well?

I've got my unopened pots in the fridge. the ones i have on the go have kept ok but don't leave it in your bag in direct sunlight (as if at the mo!) or it will melt x

    :jabsolutely thrilled today :j

Went into Birmingham and whilst in Selfridges, I went into Cath Kidston and asked them for some swatches got 7 different fabric ones and the same in the plastic type one.

As I was on a roll I went to my local fabric/curtain shop and asked if they had any old swatch books they didn't want anymore and they had a really big one! It has 56 massive swatches in with plenty suitable for the quilt I aim to make for my parents anniversary(they don't celebrate christmas so its special). Also I thought that a couple of them would make wonderful cushion covers!! I am OVER THE MOON TODAY!! :T:T:T:T:T

  • Nice one, Liesa! :T Very MSE!

Quick question - does anyone know where I can get plain wooden cubes for decoupage? I'd like some plain wooden ones (8cm squared or smaller) which I can stick stuff to (my friend's having a baby so I want to do baby blocks for her like the ones below).

3163_041608_babyblocks_l.jpg Found this via someone else's blog but can't find who mentioned it now....:o

I tried my local hardware store (asked them to chop a massive long piece into cubes and "health and safety" meant they couldn't go that small. Grrrr...!) Any ideas would be welcome :D Thanks, Lucy x PS Susan 42 - can't believe there are 1000 posts here already and it's not even February!

Craft Shapes is very good for anything wooden :) Love those baby blocks.

Another cute toy made out of blocks for kids is the clacker twisty things. I posted about them on the last Christmas thread but I did a (sort of) tutorial here on how to make them if you are interested. Very easy to make.

I LOVE those clacker twisty things whoopi, I think Boots offer them as part of their photo service, but if I remember correctly they were about £10!

Great to have your own piccys on them, I'm sure my boys would like me to do one...or ten! :D

£10!!! No way - they are SO easy to make. The time consuming bit is choosing your photos and where to position them :D Have fun if you have a go, I'd love to see!

  • Thanks Whoopido. I'll be placing an order for blocks and wooden baubles. Also added the clacker to my list of things to do. Following your blog too.

For those of you making chutneys and gifts in a jar, Poundland had packs of 2 Kilner Style Jars and also single large jars in stock this morning. I went and stocked up but am thinking maybe a few more won't hurt - not like they go off or anything!!:D
