  • My 16 year old daughter has asked me if we can make these for her friends for Christmas this year, (sorry if its been posted before)

    LP record earring holder

    http://www.craftbits.com/project/vinyl-lp-record-earring-holder

She wants to make a cover for the centre herself by hand
and make them a pair of earrings as well

She went into a charity shop last week to see how much LPs were, and they were 20p each, so quite a nice customised present for a teen for very little cost

Fantastic project! :D I was just thinking the other day that I need to get something to store all my earring on as they're getting tangled in my jewellery box :T I could put the holes around the edge to hold my hooped ones as well. I see a trip to the charity shop planned this week :D:money: Much cheaper than buying something from Avon, Lakeland etc :money:

    Hello again fellow crafters

I've just received in post 500g clear melt and pour soap base and 500g white goats milk. Bought off e bay and delivered in suitable containers to melt it in and let it set to make bars. The p + p was very fair, but that did almost double the cost of the soap base  . Just waiting for my new essential oils to come before i can play! (also got green and pink soap colour and some seaweed extract!)

It's no problem coming up with ideas to craft for female family and friends but I've got a lot of teenage boys and grown males to get presents for. I did come up with one idea, bath salts layered in their favourite football team colours and scented with 'manly' oils! any other ideas would be appreciated! I'm going to ask on the jewellery thread about simple manly bracelets!

I picked up a silicon Xmas tree ice cube tray in Tesco yesterday for 25p. I'm going to use it to make bath melts. i have ingredients left over from when I made lip balm last year!

I've been teaching myself 'broomstick lace' this week

    http://blog.grittyknits.com/ViewEntry_broomsticklace.aspx

I think it will be a pair of wristwarmers but I'll keep them for myself as there is quite a few mistakes.

I need to start saving some money so I'm not spending any more on craft stuff for a few months and going to try to use up what I've got. If anyone has any ideas for small manly gifts made from wool, crochet or knitting I would appreciate the input as I really need to use up some of my stash!

Loving the button necklace. I made button bracelts last year with my Youth Group. I don't have many buttons left now!

Good luck with the job Liesa. I only work 2 days a week and 1 evening. I could do to earn some more money but would hate to work more hours as I'd have no time for fun stuff. People think I must get bored LOL x

Oooh do you have the recipe for lip balm? My eldest has been saving those tiny jam jars as she wants to have a go at that. She goes through so much of the stuff! Lip balm that is ;)

    Love the football colours idea!

  • my friend keeps her earrings on a pound shop, frying pan splatter guard
you know those flat mesh things, she put ribbons round the handle to make it pretty
she hangs it inside her wardrobe door, its not terribly pretty, but V functional
  • my lip balm recipe is basically this,

    15g beeswax
    25g shea butter
    15g cocoa butter
    33ml sweet almond oil
    5-10 drops flavouring

melt cocoa butter 1st, double boiler or microwave methds both work equally well
(10 second bursts in micro)stir in beeswax, use as little heat as possible, so stirring for a moment will make it melt, perhaps not all the way though
add shea butter in the same way,
    stir in oil, and flavouring

allow to cool SLIGHTLY, it will change colour, melted its like oil, it will start to go cloudy/white, just as it does, pour into containers

    allow to set

Lip balm recipe. Look much the same as the way I did it, although I used microwave, but I cheated and bought a kit from e-bay :o

Loving the record ear-ring holder although I can't see OH being too happy if I put holes through his treasured LP collection!

If you love coffee, a 50/50 mix of cocoa butter and coffee butter is nice. You can get coffee butter (as well as a range of other butters and oils) here.
  • Hello Folks.

Just a quick post. Not much happening with me on the Christmas crafting front, but have actually managed to make an exploding box and my first card. I'm waiting on delivery of a couple of bits and pieces so that I can make a start on a Christmas pressie for DH. Once they arrive and it is done I will post on my blog.

Anyway, not sure if its been posted, but popped into Lakeland and they have started their final markdowns. They had loads of bits reduced to 49p, including the cello christmas themed gift bags, the extra large cello bags (ideal for those hampers) and some really sweet little calico cotton bears which could be jazzed up or altered. I suspect it will be store dependant, but if you give them a ring they will normally tell you what they have in stock and will reserve it for you.HTH
