    Please can some MSE'rs help?

I went into Tesco's (Reading) yesterday and bought 4 packs of Wrigleys Chewing gum (SEL 89p). However when I went to the till they went through at £1.25.

I proceeded to the CS desk where I was told I was wrong as the little, camp Asian CS guy buys this chewing gum all the time and knows it's £1.25. Anyway I dragged him to the shelf where I got it and there was a big "Was £1.25 Now 89p" SEL. He removed all SEL's then went back to refund me.

Anyway, he started to refund the charge to my card and in the process accused me of deliberatly looking for misprices just because I was up there last week when the checkout girl charged me twice for one product! When he'd finished he said there is £4.23 back on your card. I said shouldn't it be £5 but apparently, he told me, their new policy is refund on three items then the difference on the remainder.

Can any MSE'rs confirm this is the new policy or has this guy just spouted some bullsh*t?

And, how do I go getting back the rest of my money if this is the case?

Stone cold R&R, you should have got the full £5 back.

    Thanks gt568!

Just been onto Tesco CS helpline and spoke to a straight talking CS guy with a brain, unlike the previous girl I called, and he put it plain and clear: If Tesco overcharge you on a product you are entitled to a refund and you get to keep the product free of charge - there are no limits according to the scripts he read from!

He even gave me an example - if I bought a computer for £1000 and was charged £1000.01 I should get a full refund and keep the product!

Note to self: don't bother with meat misprices...

Went in last night and noticed that the Willow Farm chicken breasts were mispriced (thanks to OP who pointed this out). Stickers said "Was £8.99/kg, now £7.19/kg", but some packs (mine :D) scanned at the higher price.

Well, it's true what they say that the majority of people can't work out percentages...   I'm not great at maths, but even I can work out that if I've paid about £4.40 for a half-kilo pack, I have been overcharged.

It took CS and the duty manager 40 minutes to figure that out.

Did get my money eventually, but was so fed up with Tesco employing people with no mathematical skills whatsoever, or common sense for that matter  (sorry to Tesco employees on this site, who are very capable and helpful :))

Whats to work out? If the Kg price on the product is higher than the Kg price on the label, with no yellow downpriceing sticker covering the barcode, you have been overcharged. Absolutly no need to work anything else out.

Always bother with meat missprices in IMHO. For every CS person who doesn't understand how to work out a price per kg, there are plenty who do. I just take my time and explain it slowly and politely and eventually they see the light! Oh and I try not to take the p with what I buy. I've never eaten better since I started getting meat missprices.

i use the calculator on my phone to check, if there is no £/kg on the pack.

simply multiply the SEL £/kg by the pack weight and see if the prices match up.

for example, an SEL showing £7/kg and a pack weighing 340g, would be 7 x 0.34 = £2.38. If the pack price is more than this you are being over charged.

May be a good idea to take the scan down now, mcdonag. We know there are Tesco employees on here and it is a public forum.

Clasics, i am a little confused as to why the scan should be taken down....the chap has had his refund and already stated the location of the store, there is no useful information to be gleaned from the receipt.....

    Tell me about it...

What confused them was that there were two labels on the pack: the normal barcoded one (with the higher price) and a small yellow "was xxx/kg, now xxx/kg". What they found so difficult was working out which price I'd been charged, even though it was obvious to anyone with any common sense.

Game Boy Advance SODUKO Sticker £14.95
    Sel £19.99 Thanks Tesco

so the cashier scanned it in at £19.99 even though there was a £14.95 sticker on it?

Sounds like a one off error rather than something releavnt to all stores...

I'm sure you are right, but let's just say I'm glad he has. ;)
