The law is clear where two or more prices are displayed the lowest price MUST be charged or the item withdrawn from sale. If the consumer is charged the higher price an offence has been committed, the policy was introduced to avoid prosecution for misleading pricing indications so obviously appies.
which law Ben500? I have had a quick look at the consumer act but could not see it? Thanks

I spoke to trading standards about this a few months ago and they said that the shop do not HAVE to sell it to you at the lower price if it is a genuine mistake (and how can we prove it isn't) but that on the other hand it is illegal to display 2 different prices so "it's still a bit of an iffy area". I think that that is why it says to "speak to the trader first and if you are not satified....." most shops will sell it at the lower price if challenged as goodwill.

I was under the impression that by displaying a price the retailer is just offering an 'invitation to buy' and that they could refuse to sell anything to you if they felt like it/or had put the wrong price on it. But with R & R's, surely they've ALREADY sold it to you by the time you complain so they can't very well get out of it ?

Exactly - They even sometimes say that "this one was a mistake", which would seem to suggest that it was one that they didn't know about, so that makes it alright!

With regards to the expired yellow tickets, there was on on display for the Malteser Ice Creams, which stated the offer was over mid-July.
The offer was still active after this point, and some stores have put new tickets out which state the new date.

I think the dates are only for the staff's use, so they can remove the offer when that date is reached?

No, the date is there for staff and customers (the idea being that if you can see an offer you like ending soon, you buy more ;) ). Ticket replacement is handled seperatly.

Good point. Perhaps the lady at trading standards misunderstood what I was asking her about?

    Hi guys,

I stumbled on to this site when looking for free cinema tickets and have been shocked by the Tesco policy, their constant over pricing and the number of freebies MSErs are getting because of it.

I do quite a bit of shopping at Tescos and never thought they would ever overcharge. I do a cursory glance at my bill when I get home but that is only to make sure that I have got all the stuff I need.

So for the past one week I read all the posts in these threads and prepared myself for my first R+R excursion during the weekend at the Tescos at Brent Park (next to IKEA). Very unfortunately, after spending an hour (1/2 hour in the meat section) I could not even find when R+R oppurtunity. Everything seems to have been correctly priced. I am not sure whether this particular Tescos is pretty good at pricing or whether I have not checked correctly.

Is there any one who gets R+Rs at the Brent Park Tescos ? Most of the posts dont mention location and I have no seen this particular Tescos mentioned anywhere.

Havent given up hope though - will try again this weekend and spend more time there.

    Hi all

I was at the Horsham store the other day and tried to use the blue box scanner, it said "Price check, please scan item", when I tried it didn't do anything, was I doing something wrong? Is there another way of checking prices of items?

Does anybody successfully achieve R+R at the Horsham store?
Is there more than 1 scanner in that store?

I had my first oppurtunity to try the R&R at Tesco in Bradley Stoke, Bristol. I bought Tesco's own frozen Chargrill Chicken packs of 4 ((i have put details in correct thread)

I was first offered difference back, I mentioned their policy, 2 people had a look and couldnt see what I saw, one even brought some random packs of Birds eye chicken! So I went up and grabbed the label myself. one of them then said the 2nd item was overpriced so only offered 1.74 back, I said that this did not seem right and asked how they could charge 2 identical products for difference prices, to which they begrudgingly gave me a full refund for 2. they also kept uttering "head office" under their breath, so I think they are under close scrutiny now!
