    Hi guys,

I stumbled on to this site when looking for free cinema tickets and have been shocked by the Tesco policy, their constant over pricing and the number of freebies MSErs are getting because of it.

I do quite a bit of shopping at Tescos and never thought they would ever overcharge. I do a cursory glance at my bill when I get home but that is only to make sure that I have got all the stuff I need.

So for the past one week I read all the posts in these threads and prepared myself for my first R+R excursion during the weekend at the Tescos at Brent Park (next to IKEA). Very unfortunately, after spending an hour (1/2 hour in the meat section) I could not even find when R+R oppurtunity. Everything seems to have been correctly priced. I am not sure whether this particular Tescos is pretty good at pricing or whether I have not checked correctly.

Is there any one who gets R+Rs at the Brent Park Tescos ? Most of the posts dont mention location and I have no seen this particular Tescos mentioned anywhere.

Havent given up hope though - will try again this weekend and spend more time there.

I was in there Sat night, the duty manager SEL (you could not make it up) made me work very hard for 6 packs of Steak. The label was removed so nothing there that was seemingly wrong.

its a horrible shop and they dont give R&R's lightly.

    2 HOURS I WAS FIGHTING!!

No, the date is there for staff and customers (the idea being that if you can see an offer you like ending soon, you buy more ;) ). Ticket replacement is handled seperatly.

Its also not so nice to notice sometimes that when the special offer finishes and the sticker is replaced by a white one, its not unknown for it to be at a lower price than the special offer was at :) I guess they use the "offer finishes soon" to also generate more sales whether or not the new price will be higher or lower.

Anyone know how long it takes Tesco HQ to answer a letter...addressed to the MD....3 weeks and counting now.

Mine was answered within 24 hours stating that they were investigating. I then had a full reply 24 hours later (and was then able to claim my R&R which the store had refused.)

I emailed my letter to Sir Terry.

I think it can depend on who you get at Brent Cross. I got the King Kong PSP game recently and the CS congratulated me and gave me my refund. Two days later when I got the same game at the same store with a different CS/Manager I was told that because the correct SEL was on the shelf the policy didn't apply. I even got four Ecover a few weeks ago - CS said no, but the Duty Manager agreed it was an R&R.

I agree it is a horrible shop though!

    I've been Money Tipped!
almost had a r&r today. picked up Quattro razor SEL 3.98 it scanned higher at 4.98 when i paid i was well chuffed thought great free razor but no. Went to customer services who said i'd picked up wrong razor SEL was reffering to Quattro Titanium and not the regular Quattro which was on offer at 4.98 but label was underneath SEL so couldn't be seen. I'm certain SEL said Quattro razor not Quattro titanium and was directly over regular quattro razor. Should i have argued? Ended up taking cheaper Quattro razor and getting a pound difference back. Was bit dissapointed to say the least but could be bothered to argue tonight.

The law is clear where two or more prices are displayed the lowest price MUST be charged or the item withdrawn from sale. If the consumer is charged the higher price an offence has been committed, the policy was introduced to avoid prosecution for misleading pricing indications so obviously applies.

My earlier post as above seems to have caused a little confusion, just to clarify I have emboldened the pertinent areas, if a shop displays more than one price for the same item then they must sell at the lower price or risk prosecution, they can however withdraw the item from sale and refuse your offer, however what they cannot do is say "well actually wer'e selling it for the higher price" and then go on to charge you the higher price as this is an offence. At the point of claiming r&r the offence has already been committed and the purpose of r&r is to endear you to the generous nature of Tesco and influence your decision to report it.

Despite what some Tesco personel may lead you to believe this is not a voluntary practice on Tesco's part for two reasons, the first being as it forms part of their national advertising campaigns they are bound to observe it or risk complaints and possible prosecution for misleading advertising, this is where a complaint to the advertising standards authority would come in, the second reason being that it was first offered up as part of a package to demonstrate that investigations into their pricing strategies were not necessary following complaints of sharp practice, a case of oh dear we really didn't know this was happening and these are these steps we have taken to ensure it doesn't in the future please don't prosecute us for robbing everyone.

So no Trading standards will not support a complaint re r&r but will investigate pricing irregularities, if however you wish to complain about not receiving r&r in respect of a clearly mispriced item then your complaint should be to the advertising standards agency quoting their policy and where you have seen it advertised and in what format ie shelf stand, website, customer service desk, tv advert providing a date and time if possible in respect of media advertising.

I'm sure I read somewhere on here that Tesco used to advertise their R&R policy on their TV ads?
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!

They did indeed but I haven't seen it included recently but then again haven't noticed any of their ad's on tv recently so may be wrong.
