notasdaftasilook wrote:I have often wondered what , if anything , CS do with the name and address that they (sometimes) ask for ? They would look a little more official if they had the sense to give you a nicely printed form instead of the scrap of paper that has often been thrust under my nose . Is it just tossed into the bin once the customer has walked away with their booty ? If they have to have an address etc for the refunds then why don't all stores ask for it ?
In the retail store I work in, we always have to take customer details for refunds, mainly to stop dodgy staff making fraudulent refunds and pocketing the money. I don't know if any of these details get checked, but if something was suspected by a staff member, I'm sure security would want to know if these customers were real. Of course you don't have to give your real details to them!0 -
You could just try pointing out really politely that if they didn't keep trying to overcharge customers you wouldn't have to keep going to them for refunds!£2 saver club £16 so far!! - it's growing!!! :j

Also point out (again as politely as possible) that it is NOT the reponsibility of the customer to make sure the prices Tesco advertise are correct, but it's the responsibility of the company she works for! See the R&R as your 'reward' for telling them about the misprice/s. The attitude of some CS staff would lead you to believe that the R&R comes out of their personal pocket. :rolleyes:I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0 -
Constantine wrote:Its attached to the refund reciept, so that when the Duty Manager gets round to signing off the days refunds (usually just as they are trying to walk out the door  ), the CS staff can show that they gave the cash to a real person rather than their best mate Colin (no offence intended or implied to any Colins who may read this). Not foolproof by any means but a (fairly) standard procudure with many retailers to try and keep the refunders on the straight & narrow
I know some people are doubting this is the real reason, but I would tend to assume its correct. Think about it this way, at the start of a shift the CS desk probably has a few hundred quid in the till, and at the end of the shift they have nothing left .... what have they to show for that money that has gone? In some cases they will have goods being returned and refunded, but in the case of R+R they have no goods, they dont even have the original receipt (although some do photocopy them), they just have the CS word for it that they refunded the money to some MSE'rThey always print out a tiny slip of paper for a refund, I notice that less tthan £20 they dont need a manager to authorise and just usually make a quick note of the bar code or whatever it was, some ask for your name and postcode, others name and address, some even a phone number. Anything above £20 usually involves a manager coming to authorise (although some do it by the phone) and then the manager usually has to initial the slip as well. When you get into the bigger numbers of £50+ they almost always ask for a name and address. Thats what makes me believe its purely there for making sure the staff dont walk off with the cash, or indeed give it to their best mate Colin

Some people can doubt away, but (at least this time  ) there is no hidden conspiracy. Your post very accuratly describes the situation.Who or what was I before you came in to my life

Don't know the exact policy. I will try and find out tomorrow. Certainly different stores give refund levels different levels of scrutiny, depending on their value as a percentage of sales versus target.Who or what was I before you came in to my life

Constantine, what exactly is a '4 point check'? When i was getting an R&R on some Ecovers (again!!) and meat, the duty manager kept scanning the products and shaking his head rather violently and uttering the words 'These are 4 point checks' over and over rather like a mantra. He seemed very put out by the whole episode
but wasn't quite so bothered by the (several) games R&R's I was also getting as 'that's a H.O. c*ck up'

Ahh I have been wondering about that too, sometimes when they are mumbling between themselves on the other side of the desk they mention 4 point check and other times a 3 point check. I would guess thats part of the stores policy of 3 points they check as they put new stock out, and some people are jumping right to step 3 which is put new goods on shelf and missing out the first 2 which probably involved checking SELs and reducing old stock where neccesary0 -
Thanks for the advice - I feel a bit less paranoid now ! I notice somebody on the misprice forum went to the same store last evening and got a very grudging refund on a chicken. The timing of it probably meant she got the same ex KGB staff member that I got the previous evening - so its not just me she has a go at.
I will continue to be polite but I'm rather hoping to pick up some mispriced bananas when she's on duty - it will be interesting to see how she thinks I should have known it was wrongly priced before I paid seeing as the only price shown is the price on each tray of bananas.
The unfortunate thing is that she's got me so paranoid about this that I'm nervous of going in to buy anything - they are so lax about pricing that I'm certain to find a misprice at least half the time even when I'm not expecting it. And I don't see why I should just have to ignore the overcharge because it upsets this woman.
Can somebody tell me what the usual thing is for refunds late at night when CS is shut ? Somebody suggested I go later but if they have to ask me to come back the next day to sort it out that wouldn't be much use.ELITE 5:2

You will be told to come back when CS is open - some stores have later CS opening times - usually advertised by the desk.
If you want to avoid any Brown Shirt CS staff then try going after 1930 - I get the impression that this is after a shift change.
Certainly at my local store where I am a gnat's whisker away from being banned I chanced my hand later in the evening and got a hefty R&R no problems at all.
No disrespect to Tesco Dudes - but some of the full-time CS staff act as though they 'own' the store and do not like R&R.
Other staff - students and part-time weekend Dudes - they are just doing a job and chances are - less hassle!
