it is interesting that they choose to sign on. i say that only because any married women i have known who have kids and a husband in work have never signed on.

Donna in theory i do not have to sign on. The family allowance is in my name and that takes care of the NI credits for the state pension. That is probably the same for most women who don't sign on. I bet your family allowance is paid to you.. If so that is why. I sign on because i have to prove to the insurance companies that i am looking for work.

I said to her, well what if the sign on time is 3pm or 9am when i am doing the kids and again basically she said tough. I said hang on there must be something that could be done to which she relied, well you signed the agreement to be avaliable at all times for employment, what would happen with the kids if you got a job tomorrow..?. I said that there is a pre-school and after school club wheich they could attend at very short notice which we used when i was working.

Did you? At all times even though you have children? Did you not tell them that were certan hours that you can't work ie. between 8 and10am and after 2-6pm Mon-Friday?

If not, then you should have. If you haven't done this, perhaps you need to get them to amend your agreement. If I were you, I'd wait and see, you may be worrying over nothing and get an 11am slot anyway.

You are one of the lucky ones.

There is nothing lucky about it. You need to change your attitude, talking to people the way that you have done on here will not get you a job.

donnajunkie, they are signing on for financial benefit, hence the reason why they need to be willing to compromise/ be more flexible.

Thankyou a very sensibile and constructive comment. DOOKAR thankyou very much i shall go there tomorrow and ask them about it.
Apologies for the brevity, I was rushing out when I made my previous post.

Caring responsibilities are a reason that a person may be permitted to reduce their availability for work. You can reduce your hours to no fewer than 16 per week and must still show reasonable prospects of finding employment.

It seems to have escaped your notice that the OP is male; not that this particularly matters.

Ok, basically jobcentre have rules to abide by. When you made your claim you would of stated what hours you are available to work and if the interviews are within that time you risk losing your benefit if you don't attend when you have been given more than 24 hours notice.
If you are saying you are only available between school hour you need to attend the interview and get your jobseekers agreement changed to the times you are available but bear in mind you may then have to consider other job goals that you can do in that time that you state you can work. The two must match ie retail work but no weekends wouldn't go.
As for signing times these must then be in the hours you are available. Attend the office and speak to the adviser in the interview. Provided you can prove you are doing your jobearch and not restricting yourself they will help you, thats what we are there to do. But please remember we have rules to follow.

That is the point you are missing - it is not me that does not have a clue, I am not the one that is moaning about nothing. If you do not want to work with the JCP in your search for work, then close down your claim.

You are incredibly rude. Perhaps this is why you do not have a job?

As you are receiving loan and cc payments, you are receiving financial benefit by virtue of your signing on (albeit not from the JCP). Therefore I do not see the problem in making alternative arrangements for your children for one day.

Surely the cc and loan companies will be receiving the payments, not the OP? And I can understand the frustration that people have assumed that the pre and after school care is free.

FWIW central Shanklin to the JCP can take 10 minutes if you're lucky or it can take 40 for no apparent reason, the job centre is on the one way system and there is no easy parking nearby.
