Ewww i would not have thought so but I suppose its worth a try. Plenty of herbs or spices to counter the blandness!
Avoid shop bought quiches if you do not want to eat 'wet eggs' (re. the Jamie Oliver prog i never realised they used the 'breakages' from battery farms)... EUGH

OH being a 'real man' who don't eat quiche, will only eat it if it's called a flan or a tart;)

  • I don't believe it, i never realised how easy it was to make or how yummy it was.

My healthy eating cookery courses started up again last week and this week we made[quiche Lorraine with a peach bake crumble.

having not had lunch i just decided to have a large slice of quiche with a cuppa before its all go again( monday is my busy day) and wow was it yummy lol. Just had to share while i add new items from the recipe list to my Mr T shop thats being delivered tomorrow so i can make more.

  • Okay I have ignored all of the places where people say about HM quiche because I just assume it is too awkward to make. But if you have just made if for the first time I am inclined to trust your opinion a bit more :) is it really that easy? And is the pastry not hard to make? And v importantly at the minute is it very high calorie? any answers appreciated :)

Belfastgirl I often do a pastry-less quiche using leftover rice mixed with an egg as the base. It works best with flavoured rice, plain tastes a bit funny IMO. I'm not keen on pastry so I like it even more.
  • shortcrust pastry

    8oz plain flour
    pinch salt
    2oz vegetable fat
    2oz butter

    Filling

    1 tbsp olive oil
    4/5 rashers bacon
    1 small onion
    2 large eggs
    200ml milk
100ml low fat creme fraishe or cream
    100g cheddar
    sliced tomatoes - optional

    serves 6

    1. Pastry- sift flour and salt , add butter and vegetable fat and gently rub until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs, add cold water a spoonful at a time and mix with a knife until it holds together. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface abd gently press together until smooth. wrap in cling film and place in the fridge for 30mins

    2. roll pastry out and use to line your dish / tin leaving extra around the rim ( as it shrinks)

    3. preheat oven to 180 / gas 4

    4. Filling - heat oil in a pan stir the diced onion and bacon until light brown.

    5. beat the eggs, cream and milk together with a fork and then add the cheese and seasoning to it. place the bacon mixture on the pastry even out then pour the egg mixture over the top.

    6. Optional place sliced tomatoes over the top

    7. Bake for 35-40 mins until filling has set and starting to turn golden and slightly puffed above the pastry case.

    8. Allow to cool a little before removing from the dish.

serve warm or at room temp.

    there you go one recipe

belfast girl i had always thought pastry was hard but it was not , its 2 weeks in a row they have had us making pastry and it is so easy i don't know why i thought it was so difficult. And the quiche was super simple to make and follow our lesson finished early today as it went so well and quickly.

the course is a healthy eating course, it is far better for you then bought quiche as is most things you make HM.

i don't know anything about calories, but if you use low fat milk and cream and cheese and cut all the fat off the bacon like it did then it should be fine .

do give it a try and let me know how it goes
