Weezl, I tend to give LO a small bowl of runny things and let him help himself, or I load the spoon for him. When he is feeling lazy (or I don't feel up to the mess) I'll help him spoon feed. Or dip crackers in the sauce.

does he help himself with hands!? Wow feelie, you are better with mess and laundry than me :rotfl:

Thanks for the link Krystal. I think I'll pass on finding out more information :(

I phoned Care Coordinator yesterday and she wasn't any help. I phoned again today as I'm worse and she had a go at me for leaving it till Friday afternoon! She is due to phone back at 3pm and after that I won't contact her again. I think I'm going to have to request a new Care Coordinator.

I find if I only put a small amount in the bowl, there is less mess. If he has a whole big bowl he gets a bit excited and hands go everywhere. If it is a little bowl he tries to get it in his mouth. He usually tries with the spoon, then hands when frustrated.

I've got a oilcloth table cloth on the floor and he sits there. He is quite good at not making a huge mess. He fed himself quiche at lunch an only rubbed a bit of it on himself!

Yep! And all sounds great. Will keep everything crossed for you :)

I have a question about BLW, thanks loads for all the recent posts about it especially to susan for sharing Alice's first tastes diary :)

If like us, some of your meals are not suitable finger food (shepherdless pie, lasagne, cous cous, soup etc etc...) would a true BLWer not give those flavours yet? I tried smearing it on toast or a rice cake, but I then don't feel fergie is experiencing eating the normal diet, and also toast and rice cakes are worse for his perennial constipation issues than sloppier meals IYSWIM?

    Any thoughts?

A dedicated RL mummy friend is baking breadstick tye things to include all of the sloppy stuff so that it's still finger food, but I agree with MFD that BLW feels like it should be less about anxious mummies having to do lots of extra tasks!
I don't do any extra... I tend to put a bowl of it in front of her and load a spoon (or just spoon it into her) to help her along... But she is good at picking handfulls of mashed potato up and sucking it out of her fist... And since she got the hang of the pincer grasp she's good at getting little bits of meat too... :)
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

I'm feeling really down today and yesterday.

I think it's tiredness (been up since 3.30) the weather and hormones. But it's manifesting as tearful overwhelmedness, financial anxiety and questioning myself, friendships and relationships :(

We've not had a bin collection for three weeks and I've got masses and masses of recyling in the kitchen. Because I'm totally reliant on online shopping for things, I end up with a lot of packaging, and usually fill my extra large recycling bin in two weeks, so now it is all piled up in the kitchen. Got two bin bags next to the bin too. Fingers crossed for next Thursday, hopefully they will manage. At least they update the council website twice a day, giving decent updates on the situation.
I wish ours would do that. I phoned up after Christmas when they were one week late (on a fortnightly collection) just to find out when they would be coming because we had bags and didn't want to put them outside for days for animals and school kids to mess with. The woman I spoke to said that she had no idea and that even though our whole estate was fine, it wasn't worth their while to come out for "a few houses" when they couldn't get down the backstreets. She also suggested I drove the stuff to the tip as that is what she had done because her bin hadn't been emptied for a whole two weeks. It took great effort to avoid making a very sarcastic remark at that point since our bins only get emptied every two weeks anyway.

Horrified by all these bins not collected forever stories - this is why Germany is awesome. And because I'd have to send Molly to school at 4 years 1 month with children a year older. That just seems so scary :(
What age do they start in Germany? In Germany home-education is against the law.

    Which is clearly orange

    Get googling lady
Actually, since I closed the link the picture is kind of imprinted on my brain...but in it the girl looks just like you!!!
I think I'll leave the googling thanks :p
    :eek:and mind photo shopping!!!
    ...
    We have genius children :D:D

I think it's because we left it later than we did the first time... Instead of trying to force them before they're ready, they obviously just developed the right reflexes in their own time... (Maybe you should try him with a straw? ;)) Oh and Caitlyn 'gets' the Amadeus cup too!!!

Oh and that woman is clearly nuts... And obviously doesn't realise saliva tracks back up through the nipple into her system.... Disgusting woman!!! _pale_

Congratulations on the new job Elle, and the new nephew Bruno and good luck with Quango MFD!!!

More cute baby pics... I can't get enough of them :D
    we do indeed :D:cool:

ewww and saliva track back!! _pale_ I can (just about) excuse giving the dog a bowl of EBM as a one off but anyhing else is vile!

They're in London too so hopefully, public transport bit of an effort between the two of us (maybe an hour) but drive is under 30 mins. Will definitely be encouraging OH+Elijah to visit in future months!

Because the Great Flood will come if you can't deliver?? :p Sounds really great for long-term career as well as short-term, so extra congrats!

Yay for being an uncle Bruno :T

Mash is easy if it is quite firm. Although Benjamin is not a big fan of getting his hands dirty ;)
Cous-cous we haven't tried by himself, I have spoon-fed him cous cous. But then I am not a dedicated BLW'er!! Perhaps wrap in a lettuce leaf a la yuk sung? (did I spell that right Mr Countdown ;))
Soup - dippy bread!! Although I dip bread and spoon!

We have an impossi-bowl (I think) from Boots that sticks to the highchair to make it more difficult to throw things around!! Although most of what we feed him goes straight onto the high chair tray!

We are going out for a chinese buffet tomorrow :T Benjamin will be trying LOTS of new flavours!
