:hello: MM, carla, tia, MFD and mooki! :D Everyone well?

Cabin fever is setting in here too, mooki. I haven't been out the house since Monday morning :( Might go stick my head out the kitchen window just for a bit of fresh air! :o

:santa2: We are good thanks Elle. Madam is napping and i'm thinking about dinner (lamb chops probably).

I just tried to stick my head out the back door but it was frozen shut. Just opened all the kitchen windows though. I like snowy air!

    Help me please!!

1 day old and trying to breastfeed Kaden and he really isnt interested in food at all, all he wants to do is sleep, he slept last night from quarter to 11 through til quarter to 7 this morning. Has fed on and off throughout the day but for no more than 10mins at a time before he was falling asleep again.
He was the same whilst we were at the hospital and they gave him a top up feed of formula which again he didnt particularly want but he did take about an ounce of it.

I havent had a wet nappy off him all day today and im wondering whether i should give him a top up of formula

Anyone got any ideas, i want to keep persevering with the breastfeeding but im really concerned he is not getting enough due to the lack of wet nappies :o

Bruno, thanks for that link to kidspace earlier, I've just spent most of the day explaining why we can't go there, I even had to look it up on routefinder and show her how far away it is (237miles)

Eeeeep sorry! As E is only 17 months I did suspect it might be partly wasted on him, and we didn't go - shall save it for when our friend can make it out of his drive!

I have it bookmarked for little madam for the future as its not that far from us!

I have also been to these ones (dont click Millies mum if millie is nearby!)

The snakes and ladders one I used to go to is the one in Syon park where they have the butterfly house. Can't wait to take Leila!

Sorry for butting in, hope you are all having lovely weekends. I'm getting a bit of cabin fever here as I dont want to drive my car after getting stuck in the snow the other week. xxxxxxxxxxxx

Ooo thanks Mooki :) how is it butting in??! That's the whole point of this thread, sort of! Snakes and Ladders looks semi-near to us, what age range would you say works there?

In the end we went to the National Army Museum... sounds like a random choice I hear you say?, and it was, but it actually has an awesome soft play area for young children (I guess 1-4 or so would seem right). Really extensive, lots of toys and interesting things as well as climbable levels and slides for the older end, and secure entry with a friendly staffmember, buggy park and 'en suite' toilet+baby changing, with a cafe right beside. They do timed sessions, one hour slots, no cost. Very impressed, and as it's 10 mins walk from my work I might even get OH up there and meet up for lunch on a weekday! :)

Keely, sounds like a horrible experience, hope Elliot gets better fast at least :/

Try a cold damp flannel and wash his face to wake him up. But remember that all you're producing is colostrum so they won't get much in the way of liquid. Babies don't need milk for the first couple of days anyway if they were full term, they still have reserves from you. And no wonder he wants to sleep, birth is hard work for a newbie.

If you are really worried call the hospital or your midwife, but generally they won't worry for a couple o days anyway. Just keep offering.

    Hi Princess and congratulations!

I'm in Germany and I think our guidelines are different, but I was told that it can take 2-3 days for the baby to be getting anything more than a tablespoon or so out of the breast, and that that's all they need for the first little while. If you're worried, call NHS Direct maybe?

Someone who knows what they're talking about will be along any sec PP, but I thought for the first 3 days or so you shouldn't really worry much, just try to feed when they seem interested, it's more about colostrum and the baby learning to adjust at this point? Or I might be wrong

PP - could he have a touch of jaundice? Holly was like that in hospital and ended up needing a touch of phototherapy. She was not latching properly, therefore even though I was expressing what the BF Support workers said was enough, she was dehydrated and just slept all the time. Nothing would wake her up and she did ot have wet nappies. Apparently 60% of babies get jaundice but more likely if breastfed. I would contact your midwife for reassurance and advice tbh. Try not to worry but get it checked out.
