Basically my job involves looking at the ideals of treatment of certain disorders and trying to find a way to usefully make them fit within the requirements of an actual clinical situation. And then I have to make my theories sound plausible so that people will actually take them seriously and I can justify being employed

No need to be paranoid - I get enough case studies crossing my desk without looking for more in my nonworking life. Although FWIW you're nowhere near odd enough to become a inpatient

It surprises me how often people become even jokingly convinced that I'm going to try to diagnose them once they find out what I do - but that's not my job and even if it was it would be unethical of me to apply it to non-patients. So worry not, lovely girl
