  • Well, the snow eventually came!. Poppy was all ready for nursery but I decided not to take her just in case it got worse and I couldn't pick her up!

So, whilst the children are napping I'm spending their xmas money :p. Just bought Jamie this as Poppy already has a pink one when they were a bargain at Netto.

MOTM, I would most definately take all the money from DD. Harsh maybe but a very valuable life lesson and hopefully something she won't repeat.

Bruno, I need 'me time' but not at DH's expense. My parents have the children two afternoons a week so its then that I do as I please. Weekends are very much family time and we socialise as a unit.

  • Thanks Feelie, maybe I won't bother with the Lilypadz then. Don't really want to waste £13! How many pairs of washable ones do you have? I'm worried I'd constantly have to be washing them (I'm a bit lazy like that)!

LCK- it did drive me mad, i was induced, I failed to progress (after 44 hours) so I had an EMCS but it was all worth it.

I totally know what you mean about adjusting. I'm so used to just popping into town or to the supermarket and now everything has to be planned around feeds! My OH has been great though which has helped a lot.

  • Me three, Lisa! 34 years of living the high life before my little girl (then boy at 35) but I wouldn't have it any other way now.

Up till now, I just had two pairs, but for Christmas I treated myself to another two pairs!

The fairies would happily post the Lilypadz I've got, but don't know if that is a bit 'gross'. I never actually used them (I couldn't figure out how to get them on, but I'm sure MFD did so she could probably give instructions). I'll wash them first, and you can try them? I don't know how squeamish people are about that sort of thing, so if you don't want them, I understand, if you do, PM me your address and I'll pass it on to the fairies.

Feely, how did you find a nanny? Did you say it was an agency? Just looking at lots of possible options to make OH's life easier (although nannies, CMs and nurseries will all require sacrificing something else to pay for them... could be worth it).
  • And we have tooth number 11! A molar, no less :T

I registered with two local Nanny agencies. One took over a month to reply, the other was incredibly helpful and I found the Nanny through them. I also registed with places like NetMums, Childcare.com and a few other websites, but I really didn't like them, they were too amateurish.

As well as a Nanny, there is also 'Mothers Help' - would something like that be an option? They can't be left alone so are cheaper, but might allow OH some space to do her own thing?

Edit, the agency I used seem to be National. My local branch were fab, no idea what the national one is like, but the link is:

I've got to pay a fee of 3 weeks salary. I'm paying the Nanny £10 per hour (expensive part of the country, plus she is very highly qualified, and I'm paying for flexibility and short hours).

He did it again! :D Only in front of me and my phone is dying so the camera won't work, but he did it long enough for me to jump up and fetch my phone from the other side of the room before realising it was on it's way out!
  • That would be amazing Feelie, thank you so much. I will PM you. I think I will also invest in some washable pads as they would be a good night time option.

I think £10 an hour is quite reasonable for short hours. I hope it makes a difference for you, I think it is a great idea.

Okay, so i'm now in a bad mood. I've had my mail.

I've gone wrong somewhere in my parenting. 15yo told me she'd voted for a boy on X Factor a few times. I consider 246 times totalling £83.88 as a little more than a few.

Surely she must have known i'd find out when the bill arrived

6 of them i've never had to have a serious go at, but 15yo, who to be fair is a delight 99% of the time, occasionally throws a spanner in the works. At Christmas it was being rude to Lucy, now this, although it was around a similar time that the phone calls were made. I can't remember the date she and Lucy fell out, maybe I should find the post I made and see if she has done this out of spite.

Fortunately, we are fairly well off right now and I have plenty of money stashed aside, plus Lucy coming into the household has improved things.

I've got to find a right punishment now. Do I make her pay it. She has plenty of savings and money, but then i'd feel like I was stopping her future.

She'll be home in less than 2 hours, so i'm going to have to think.

I am assuming it's her as she was the only one who watched it, so i'll have to tread carefully.

    There may be trouble ahead...

Still catching up but DD had a mobile bill for £140 in October. It was a brand new phone she got for her birthday in September, she'd had a contract for 2 yrs and never gone over her minutes before! Turned out it was a boy she was phoning lol
Anyway I gave her 3 options for her to repay it
    1) Sell new phone and pay it off in one
    2) Return big xmas prezzie that I had already bought and pay it off in one
    3) Pay it off her pocket money at £15 a week til it was clear.

She picked 3 and just started getting PM again on Saturday there now it is paid, I gave her a payment card and marked the money off weekly.
There was never a time where she was getting away with it!!!!
She has repaid every single penny and never gone over minutes again

ReTT bottles. I make them up when the water is still hot then cool them in the sink (6 at a time). If you put the powder in hot water it dissolves straight away and you get more in.
Powder sits on cooler water making it harder to fit 8 scoops in
