Carla you need to get your hours request in ASAP! will it be worth you going back though? will you get WTC to cover the childcare?
I know, spoek to my boss on Christmas Eve stating i needed to chat to her about work and she said "when is it your back, Feb!? Loadsa time left!!" so i have a feeling she thinks im coming back to do hours like before. which i am sooo not! Although, working for Claire's for 7 years, I know that what i want to do is practically impossible! Its very much shift work, unless you are manager or asst manager -- they usually do the daytimes and it is left to us supervisors to share out the nights. Im also hoping tht i could posisbly me movved back to my original store as its 10 mins closer to me than the one i was moved to after ML with Katie, if that makes any sense to you?
And about tax credits etc - i have no idea! I havent looked that far into it! Also, i dont understand it? Do u get vouchers in place of the normal money u get, or on top or what!??
Carla - it's tough isn't it? I cried loads when I was trying to find childcare, even just the thought of making phonecalls made me cry :o
Yeah, me too. Thank god Robbie was engrossed in his ps3 last night or we would have made me feel like a complete numpty! -- he doesnt undertsand crying!! lol.

Tia - your list of things to do tody made me feel tired!! Good luck with it!!
haha, :rotfl:@ the "Gun from hell" - Robbies sister gave us a teething keyring which sings and after many times in the bath and approx 2 years on he blimmin thing is still going!!!! lol

  • Aless- I just saw your post on the pg thread about going out. I totally know how you feel, but my experience of taking Henry out has been fine. I personally find it much easier to use the sling rather than the buggy and I try to go out straight after a feed so we don't have to worry about tha for a few hours.

There are online calculators that help you work out if you're better off getting tax credits or vouchers, its only if you're quite well off that you're better with the vouchers I think. We get TC's, they just add it onto your existing entitlement, but they wont do it until you're actually back at work, or if returning to your existing job they'll do it 7 days before. Have a play around with entitledto.com, and be prepared to get a totally different amount to what entitledto says, and if you work it out more than once, two totally different amounts with the same figures :rotfl:
As for work, you do need to put the request in ASAP, in writing, with the hours you want to work, then if they say no they have to prove that it would be detrimental to the business if they let you work those hours :)
What I did was give my work a choice, I wanted to do 3 days so I said they could choose what days except for Saturday cos I had no way of getting childcare, and I said I would be quite happy to work the hours of 3 days over 4 days if it was easier for them!

We still don't have baby gates :o and Benjamin has been crawling for 4 months and can now climb the stairs :o Maybe I am just not a baby gates kind of person  I don't feel the need for them yet. Not sure at what point you definitely need them?

Although, I haven't 'babyproofed' my living room yet either :o I just use the 'oi baby - get yer mitts off' approach to parenting :rotfl:

Very similar to my approach! :D Although the 'oi baby, get yer mitts off' usually results in a cheeky smile.

MIL bought us two gates when I was a few months pregnant - nothing like being prepared. One fixed on which is in the box in the kitchen, and a portable one which I have actually used, to keep the dog in the kitchen.

I did use one with the older two, but not until they were toddling. I had it fixed at the top of the stairs, so there was no falling down the stairs incidents when they were able to get out of bed.

My theory is he doesn't like the Moses basket b/c he doesn't like sleeping on his back full stop b/c he does the exact same sort of fretting when we put him in the pram. We'll see! It's all not so bad, just gotta get used to this new gig as parents :o still quite surreal!

I don't think V ever slept properly in the moses basket, and she didn't like being on her back either. We rolled up blankets like sausages when she was tiny and put them either side of the basket, with her in the middle slightly on her side, her back against a sausage iykwim!

I don't think she slept properly until she could roll over and choose her preferred sleeping position with bum in the air! (Just like mummy!) :o

They just pay extra in your tax credits award towards childcare. Have you had a look on the online tax credits calculator? http://taxcredits.hmrc.gov.uk/HomeNew.aspx
You can put in your figures for different scenarios and figure out how it will work out for you. Thats how we figured out i'm not worth working!

Hugs to all the poorly mums and babys - that covers just about everyone!

I was feeling smug that we'd all had the d&v bug at the start of December. But I seem to have passed my cold onto V now. She's got a constant stream of snot, snotty eyes and her little voice has gone croaky!

If SB is about - did Jamie enjoy his birthday? And I want to pick your brains. I need your opinion on the Zia you have/had? Would you recommend it? I fancied a quinny zapp, but the not laying down put me off and i've seen a lot of reviews recommending the Zia as an alternative. A google search of reviews brought up lots of brilliant ones, but also a few 'the worst pram i've ever owned' ones! I need a real persons opinion. :D

What is everyone up to today? OH is back in work and i'm planning on tackling the ironing and trying to sort out some of the mountain of toys in my living room.

  • Hello all, hope all the sickie ones feel better soon ((hugs)) to you all

I spent all day yesterday trying to get Dylans stuff put away, washing, cleaning etc ... sat down to have a rest before I started Jasmines and never got up again !! Between reading books, playing games and eating, I had a busy night !!

So today I HAVE to get Jasmines new stuff in her room as I want my living room back !!

Does anyone else ever feel like no matter what they do, there is always washing and ironing to do :( Its never ending and I am starting to get really down about it, cuz its all I seem to be doing at the minute, esp with Dylans reflux playing up again !
Oh well, must go do some more !

I know the feeling! I get a little excited feeling when the ironing is finished and the washing basket empty.........then about two hours later there will be more to do.

Hopefully its not to bad today - DD is being a slob this week and has refused to get out of her pj's since Christmas night! She may be getting a bit smelly, but it it saves me washing its good! :rotfl:

Thanks em & 3, gonna have a look now!!
If OH had a permanent job it prob wouldnt be worth me working, but he is unemployed at the minute, so I gotta go back. and prob should have been a good bit before this. :S

Hi MM! Yes, i know exactly how you feel! I only have more load to do, until tonight when everyones dirty underweaar and clothes come off! Im not too bad at getting it washed and dried, its the putting away that riles me! I currently have a mountain of robbie and I's clothes to put away and i just cant face it!!!

I feel exactly the same, I feel really chuffed every time I manage to get the laundry basket empty, then when OH comes in from work he changes his clothes, then seths clothes go in, then mine, then the next morning all our PJ's and its full to the brim again  I have tried suggesting there is no need for OH to change his trousers/PJ's everyday, but that is skanky apparantly

Well, that'll be us lowering the bed on the cot tonight then, as I just heard a very scared cry come down the baby monitor and ran upstairs to find Seth had pulled himself up and was standing up in it, and obviously scared himself not knowing how to get down! Its the first time he has managed to pull himself up on anything other than hands! I just hope he doesnt lean over and throw himself out before we can lower it!!

Carla - if Robbie is un-employed you won't get help with childcare from tax credits, it is their opinion that if one parent isn't working then they should be looking after the child.

MFD - have you signed up to the itunes 12 days of Christmas for DSS? you get a freebie everyday, today was JLS video, yesterday was trivial persuit :T you'll need to check everyday or sign up for email reminders http://www.itunes12daysofchristmas.co.uk/

I think i's best you or OH do it as day 2 was an episode of Alan Partridge that had naughty words in
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.
