i'm in a cold zone (BN1), though a bit confused- is it just pensioners who get this payment? on income baseed JSA at present..

(..and just hope the roads clear, in time for next sign on!)
    No!
You may also be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment for each qualifying week if you are getting Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance in the assessment phase and have one of the following:
    • a pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
    • a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium
    • a disabled child premium
    • Child Tax Credit that includes a disability or severe disability element
    • a child who is under five in the family

saying that i only had one trigger last winter whilst areas around me were triggered

    how strange the system is

I'm sure if you didn't pay your bill..... and waited until the letters threatening to disconnect you arrived... before phoning British Gas.......they'd be happy to fit you a pre-payment meter.
    Oh what's the bloody point...?

4 periods of cold weather in my area.

Am so glad to say that the first 3 payments have all gone into my bank!!

£25 last week and £50 today.

Living in a prefab with quite an open plan downstairs it gets cold in here even in the warmer weather, my new boiler is quite honestly a load of rubbish as it can only reach a cartain temp and that isn't very warm!!!

Heating on constantly pretty much and using around £15 gas every 2/3 days!!!

I wish I could get my pre pay meter out its driving me mental unfortunaly I have a realy old boiler system which means I have to have the hot water on constantly to get the radiators working.. and the water wont stop boiling up I have tried to turn the hot water down so its not boiling up so much but it makes the radiators cooler, I have asked the council to check its working properly and in there eyes its working fine
I am living in a council house and couldnt afford to change the system even if they allowed me.

We have resorted now to just heating the living room in the day and putting the central heating on for half an hour before the kids go too bed... not ideal but cheaper :)

Switch to EDF energy. They will remove a prepayment meter after you have been with them for 1 month on pre payment, no questions asked
