MSE News: BT cuts 'free' evening calls by one hour

Emailed them from their website, twice since the 11th and have had no response at all so far.0

I use Primus as my CPS and benefit from free local and national calls from 6pm - 8am weekdays and all weekend.
I wonder if they'll follow BT's lead and move the goalposts to only free after 7pm. I know in the past they have increased call charges in line with increases announced by BT.
Surely BT will loose 1000's of customers over this if other providers contiunue to offer free calls from 6pm. I'm already waiting for o2 to start offering landline rental then I may well move everything over to them if they keep their free call start time at 6pm. If the service is anything like their broadband it will be a winner.0 -
This is what they said:
Dear Mr X,
Further to our conversation I can confirm that I have now cancelled your Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan package and you have been put on to the basic Unlimited Weekend Plan package as requested. You will not be held to term for your package and you will therefore not be charged anything for cancellation. I am sorry again for the difficulty and misunderstanding when cancelling your package.
Ah, so they let you get out of the new unfair contract too? So that's two people that don't exist, according to BT, on this page alone! I really don't know how they have the audacity to claim that nobody has, when clearly there are plenty of people that they have allowed to leave / keep their existing terms.0 -
There was even a name at the bottom which I omitted:
Melissa Maguire
Digital Care Advisor
Thanks for that - may come in useful next time I try to contact BT. They'll probably claim she doesn't exist either!!!

She rang me as well as emailing. So I would like to think she existed.0 -

It sounds like the success or failure depends on who you speak to, as they don't seem to be consistent. I'll try again on Monday, and hope I get through to somebody like Melissa who has some common sense. Cheers for the info.0 -

This is the wording I used in the email:
I request cancellation based upon Paragraph 48 of your Residential Terms which says the following:
If we have made a change which is to your material disadvantage, you will not have to pay a charge if you decide to end your agreement early, unless the Tariff Guide says otherwise. However, once we have told you about such a change, you must let us know that you want to end the agreement within 10 days.
The tariff guide says nothing.0 -
I had a letter from BT saying my existing 12 months evening and weekend tarrif was coming to an end on 18th Feb, so I just called them to say I didn't want to renew it.
I said the reason why was due to the 6 to 7pm time shift and he said, but its ok as you get 6am to 7am, but I told him I am usually asleep at that time of the day! He then went on to say that BT updated with most other telecommunications companies, so 7pm to 7am was standard timing.
He then tried to push the unlimited call plan for £3.99 extra a month which I rejected. I told him I could get calls cheaper using 18185 which he claimed he had never heard of! He said he had worked in telecoms for 6 years and 18185 was news to him! Unbelievable.
Anyway, Primus Saver, I a coming back! I was with them before, but 1 year ago saw an offer from BT to switch to the BT Evenings Weekend call plan for 12 months contract and get a free IPOD shuffle, which I did.
I guess I'll see if BT try any new offers in a few months time once i switch over to Primus Saver.0
