Going to try and do what I had planned yesterday today now but am a bit weary of taking DS into town incase I get some funny looks off people! He does look like hes been in the boxing ring! Also will have to wait for it to heal now before taking Christmas photo for December month of Calendar and Christmas cards! Right well I am off to change and head out! Fingers crossed!!!! x

    Legendmum, how's your DS's head?

My small girl is currently stained purple - the only way she'd eat her yoghurt is if I gave her the pot and the spoon :rotfl:

And yes, a Christmas cake is done when the skewer/knife comes out clean.

    Edit: Lol crossposted with you!

    Hiya girls!

I am loving internet shopping at the moment (favorite place being play.com at the moment.)

Anyone knowing any other online places like play.com? Apart form amazon and ebay.

Anyway trying to finish off my dad and brother this month.

So far have ordered my dad a guitar gimmick top (hes a guitarist)
so far for my brother a joke mug
Both will have some form of man smellie and a pint of socks.

The bank balance is dreadfully low at the moment.. x

junior-j if you have a nectar card you can go through the nectar site for play.com and get points, can for amazon as well plus ebay xx

    Evening everyone!
For those of you making pints of socks, I think they were only 50p/25p in Mr TEScOoo the other day. Pint glasses that is!!
:) Saw them and thought of the forums...lol!

Thanks for that have been thinking of making them.

Legendmum hope your DS heals quickly kids they always manage to do something to make us panic! I remember when DD2 was 3 and she told me she could fly she jumped from the top of the stairs and stood there laughing with her head pouring blood everywere:eek:

Not a good start to my day the handle has come of the tumble dryer door so have had to ring through to get that repaired but I have loads of washing sat here needing to be dryed :(

I sorted some of the presents yesterday and put those that need to be posted into boxes just need 2 more boxes though so will keep my eyes open for them. One hamper left to finish of and then need to check list to see what else needs doing.

Better late that never, - once the skewer is clean the cake is done, if it wasn't it would be sticky, - a tip for the future, if you find the top of the cake cooking more than the bottom, pop cooking foil over it.

Sounds lovely the cointreau flavour, - I use a thin knitting needle for the piercing, and ideally feed every 2 weeks....... xx

Thank you so much for the advice mum2one. I ended up going inbetween the two times and i think its ok. I was so nervous about it, I kept back a spoonful or two at the end, and baked a mini one in a ramikin dish, thay way, i could atleast tell what the taste was like.

Also, I got a baking magazine yesterday and there where some great recipes for coconut ice and peppermint creams. They look so simple to make and really cheap too. Will post on here later today, I think they would make great presents.
  • Hello everyone

I am SO BORED at work today! Half the office is empty, I wish I was at home (got more to do there than I have here!) Weather is miserable as well - freezing cold and raining, I had to wear a hat, put my hood up and use my umbrella this morning so that my hair looked halfway to normal by the time I got to the office.

legendmum - hope your DS is ok, typical when you're all ready to go out!

welshgirl - I had the same problem with my Christmas cake, I'd never made one before this year and the recipe said 4 hours. It was done after 3 so I took it out. I am feeding it every two weeks until it's ready to be iced. It seems ok, hopefully it won't poison anyone!

Looking at my list of presents to get I think I am fairly organised now, just one or two more bits left to get for family and then my OH to sort out. Have ordered his main present so will probably just get him a few more things to open. Am waiting for some Amazon vouchers from Toluna (God knows whether they'll come through before Christmas) but if not I have saved loads of Nectar points which I can convert to get some of the usual books, DVDs etc.

    :)
  • Ermmm am I the only one who feeds my cake a few times a week then? :o

Don't know if this is of use to anyone but Aldi have alphabet cookie cutters for £1.99 a set. They also have a numbers and shapes set and an animal set
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Heehee no wonder Im always told my xmas cakes are boozy! I must admit a lot more than 6 spoonfuls of brandy goes in mine... fruit is soaked in a 70cl bottle of rum until its all soaked up, apart from the cherries which are soaked in a cup of cherry brandy which is then put in the mixture. Then when it first comes out of the oven I give it a good 3 desert spoons of brandy (it seems to soak in well when its still oven hot) then I give it a spoon or 2 every 3 days. Almost got through a bottle of brandy already, then onto cherry brandy :D **hic**

I made that up myself so probably not how you should do it. 3 bottles of booze is probably a touch too much for a cake :o
