Evening everyone!
For those of you making pints of socks, I think they were only 50p/25p in Mr TEScOoo the other day. Pint glasses that is!!Saw them and thought of the forums...lol!

hia everyone, was looking for some advice if possible...
I am normally really good with cakes but tonight i have been making my first ever christmas cake (20 years old, moved out 1 1/2 years ago but didnt bother last year). I've followed the recipe to the letter, but it has no mention of how to tell when the cake is ready.
it gives a total cooking time of 3 1/2 to 4 hours, so cant tell which to go for. ive used a skewer to check and that is coming out clean, but is that the right test for fruit cake????
dont know whether to take it out and risk it being underdone or keep it in and make it dry.
i plan to feed it with cointreau (what my mum has always done, a really nice orangy-christmassy taste.) but want it as moist as possible.
thanks for reading

It's so hard to keep up with this thread, everyone's so busy!!!:T
Went shopping today, left the kids at my mam's to get their xbox (between them). Was going to get one preowned from Game as you get 12 months guarantee. Prices started at £70 a couple of weeks ago- today it was £100  Suspect they might hike prices before Christmas, and I know there's a lesson in there somewhere (don't leave til tomorrow...!!!) but I never thought for a minute that'd happen!:( Was so disappointed I walked out, feel like going somewhere else for one now!!!
legendmum - hope DS is better soon, poor thing
junior_j - the hut is also good and I've always been happy with thing I've ordered from there
hello to everyone else, off to get the kids to bed now then a nice long bath" If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. "

My DD who's 6 and I had a stall and we made £82 so really pleased. They have one on the 5th December too so am tempted to book another pitch and de clutter some more. I have given DD £5 for helping me and DS £5 for donating his toys to sell so I am going to buy some Christmas bits tomorrow with the rest. Some meat, prawns, cheese biscuits, fizzy drinks, etc...
We're all off to my Mums in a bit for a roast beef dinner so that'll be nice, got to have the talk today about who's going where at Christmas, we'd like Mum and Dad to come to ours but don't really want brothers and families, see how that goes!!
Less than 50 days now girls...:D
I'm jealous, I did a car boot sale-it was nippy, - but gd thing the gates didn't open to 8.30am, so a lie in. Made £23, but £5 for the table, and then £9 was dds stuff Id sold, so grand sum of £9......... but every penny helps.
At that rate def book another pitch, hoping that our school will do a table top b4 xmas (got to have some advantages to being on the PTA,) and then we got xmas fayre, so I have my stall, for free - made £100 last yr...... b4 dd had her share, dad had £20 for helping!!, so I was left with £40, but it brought a Radley bag........so can't complain.
Booked a table at craft fayre for end Nov - so fingers crossed funds add up......
I've gone posh, now a parent govener at the school - just waiting for all the stuff to come through and sign my life away!

Well I did have a productive day planned! DID!!! Just as DS and I were ready to leave he trips over his own feet and whacks his head on 1 of our leather storage boxes! Tears and screams and then when I looked, blood, and lots of it! So trip to A&E it was! Luckily its not too bad and we have to see how well it heals overnight as Doc doesnt really want to put him to sleep to stitch it and its too close to his eye to glue! Oh what a palava! He is now asleep on the sofa and I have done nothing all day! Was planning on a nice bit of Sunday shopping, as parking is free, and this afternoon some making or wrapping! Oh well the joys of parenthood! Nothing is ever straight forward!!! x
Oh heck, oh bless his heart, hope he goes on ok,. xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

Better late that never, - once the skewer is clean the cake is done, if it wasn't it would be sticky, - a tip for the future, if you find the top of the cake cooking more than the bottom, pop cooking foil over it.
Sounds lovely the cointreau flavour, - I use a thin knitting needle for the piercing, and ideally feed every 2 weeks....... xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Just thought i would pop this on here as some of you may like to have a go at making some
