They are having £1 per year of their age paid monthly at end of month and with a raise on their birthdays. This is so they can start spending their own money instead of pestering for comics over and above what I'm prepared to buy them etc.

What a fab idea!! I am always questioning how much I should give my children. Currently DS2 (10) and DS3 (8) get £2 per week and DS1 (14) gets £3 per week. DS4 (2) gets ziltch!! I often think I am not being fair giving DS1 only £3 per week but couldn't think how I could make it fair related to their age. Now I know!!! Thank you Spendless

    Hi everyone

Most family members had home-made hampers this year for Christmas (which they loved :D) filled with home-grown and home-made jams, chutneys, pickles etc. I'm aiming to do the same this year so will get things made throughout the summer/autumn months as gluts of produce appear (we've got an alloment and back garden is dug up too :p).

    QUOTE]

One of my favourite presents this year was a hamper of home-made goodies my SIL gave me. There was plum vodka, chilli olive oil, sloe gin, apple & mint jelly and redcurrant jelly. I'm planning to make some home-made foods myself this year taking advantage of seasonal fruits (blackberry jelly is just delish and the fruit is free of course!). Sadly I don't have a garden or an allotment but will look out for bargains and grab them! Hope you have a productive year.
  • I had a nice long browse around town today, it's the first day since way before Christmas that I haven't got to entertain family/visit friends and relatives/cook/clean or anything:j.

I picked up a few more Christmas/Birthday presents, this is becoming an obsession!

I bought 4 copies of this book for £3.99 from The Works (it isn't on their website that I can see), it's a really nice little book and would make a lovely gift for someone. I was going to treat myself earlier this year when it was published so I'm very happy to have found it for such a good price.

I got sme Christmas tea towels from Primark, £1 for 2, thought I'd make up a little kitchen hamper. The 99p store had Sarah Smith dishcloths and dusters, they retail at £2.99 in Homebase at the mo.
I might have to have another little browse tomorrow, I'm liking this bargain hunting:D.
  • Today's activities were yet again successful :)

I went to Lakeland this morning and bought pretty card toppers £1.49 X3 were £3 each and the Christmas cello bags 75p X2 were £1.50 I think - The snowman ones will be great for my snowman soup :D
I managed to get the last of my Christmas pressies for friends and kids!! I got 2X mens FCUK toiletry bag and mini's £5 down from £10 from Boots and in Argos I got 2X sticker makers £4.99 each down from £12.99 for birthdays.
Now only the family to worry about! :D

I also went and got my SIL Sound of Music tickets for her birthday next week (well kind of) I have a live card which is £30 a year, however it gives you discount on most theatre tickets either 241 or £5 off top priced tickets. The opening night of Sound of Music is 241 so I went in to book at the box office to save the £3.50 posting charge!! Only to be told the Live card allocation had been sold and there were now only the £5 discounts on Monday and Wednesday mattinee performances, Connie Fisher is not doing these performances I was told. However I looked them up yesterday and on ticketmaster it was still showing up as 241 so I told the girl and she said she was unable to give me the 241 offer as it was now not on and she would inform her boss who would contact ticketmaster to have it removed. I thanked her and told her I would leave it. I came home and went straight online and ordered the 241 tickets!! Including the £3.50 booking fee I paid £40.50 for the 2 tickets for the stalls on opening night :D

Hello folks. I'd really like to get ideas for gifts for adult males please.
One had an "irish stout" for birthday with black socks in a pint glass topped with a cream flannel, & a case of the actual stuff that--thankfully!--was on a good offer at the time :p

I have a grown male cousin who has special needs so no reading, puzzles etc for him. I did find a gorgeous money box in the shape of a mini for him for crimbo tho & I'm on the look-out for a wall clock with either good sized numbers or preferably a novelty feature to it. I know what I mean but can't explain it, but I thought I'd seen one where the hands were bananas & the numbers different fruit & veg. Before you ask I was stone cold sober & when I went back a couple of weeks later it wasn't there!

Off to do my lists & things & look forward to catching up with everyone over the coming months.

Debenhams has wallace and grommet clock 1/2 price.
    Loving the sunny days!
  • ive been cutting up xmas cards to make gift tags (even if its a big card i just cut little rectangles out and make brand new tags lol) i raided my mums house ie my old room for my old card box/organiser and in it i found 2 unopened packs of 50 xmas cards from years ago!! get in! lol

ive got a box under my sons bed with unwanted presents along with a list of who they were from so i dont give them back to them next year!! ha ha feel a bit bad doing it but they will never get used so why not? besides im sure a few presents i got this year were things from peoples bedrooms that they had never used so hay ho lol

im an avon lady and you can order bumper boxes for 30 or 50 quid (split into two payments) where you get 30 or 50 products. i ordered one to give to customers as free gifts etc but in this one there was a xmas mug and reindeer toy AND two novelty xmas bottle stoppers so theres 2 presents. also a few gift bag/sets in there ie moisturising gloves, nail files etc which would do fine for a present so im happy with that!

not braved the shops yet. im waiting for a day where i dont have my son + massive buggy to attempt to navigate around the queues of people

Thanks though I shouldn't take the credit. I read it in a newspaper column a few weeks ago, Vanessa Feltz I think, saying someone had rung into her radio show with the idea. I'm doing mine monthly as that is how our household income comes in apart from CB on 4 weekly and I'll bore you all with the tax credit money some other time -LOL
Out of interest how many children do you have skinray? I saw you post about a DD3 or 4 as well as a DS4 and wondered if it was a typo or not. :)

I also forgot to mention in Home bargains the other day, I picked up some HSM scrap book about 69p-79p.

Also does anyone know the policy for returning items to Debenhams without a receipt? Mum got my DH a laptop bag as per his request but she mistook 17cm for 17" and it's far too small and she's searched but can't find the receipt. I know I should have asked the other day when I bought in there but at that point I thought mum would find the receipt.
  • Could I join too. I was pretty organised for Christmas but I spent too much money. Need to really cut down.

    This thread is great. 099.gif
