I definately would need a lie down after thinking of all of those! Brilliant ideas Mum2one - especially the retro sweets one. I'm going to do that for the fathers presents too (if you don't mind). Not a lot of cost but fills out the gifts a bit.

think I should join with the lie down, not like my brian to work so quick. The sweet one s brilliant, - he'll love it, the best thing is you can personalise it to their tastes.

Ooooo you ladies are great. I'll use a few (because they'll add up I'm sure!!) for screws etc, crayons etc for Bethan for when she's older, but I love the retro sweets idea! Just need a way to cover them!

Btw, I'm making a decision to lose weight!! I blame Martin Lewis and the (in a round about way) free joining of the Weight Watchers site. Once I've bought meself a new set of weighing scales, I'm going to weigh each week and if you lot don't mind I'm going to TRY to remember to report back to you! Should give me some motivation!

Sarah - green screen?? Blimey! Lucky DS!! Very clever!

  • THANKS ALL for the ideas - I'm in Manchester about 5 mins from the airport ( having lived here all my life - i have to say that the planes are sounding very bizzare since in the last couple of weeks!!) . DAD is a huge hige fan of steam trains - he knows everything there is to know about them so a visit / day out woudl be a fantasic idea - can't belive i haven't thought of it!! He drives and is retired so theres no reason for him to go on Fathers day he could go anytime - i'll have to have a look and see whats near (ish) within an hour or so - hed like that and mum would go with him too for the trip! Reallty fab idea guys thank you so much ( i could get my sister to chip in too!)
Something similar would eb a classic car show i guess -hes really into those too but I'm not sure mum would be pleased as he is currently banned from buying any more heaps of rubbish as she calls them!

  • Elysia- you've done amazingly well to be all sorted til november - i'm very impressed - and jealous!! The tram museum is a great idea - he really loves trams.. will check out how far from us it is and see what the cost etc is!

Mum2one - I love your ideas for presents - i'm going to copy and paste them onto my document so i dont' forget.. thought a candle / smellie one would be lovely too - maybe colour themed to match someones bedroom or lounge... a smelly candle with matching little tea lights and mabe some glass beads to scatter in there too...
ohhh or a nail one with nail file, little bottle of varnish remover , some base couple of top coats .....a glittery one to sparkle...

I don't have any baby milk tins... but i do have millions of dolmio jars that my OH saves for his garage and never uses... i thought i'd use them to make the cookie thing on the gifts thread i found somewhere else - where you put all the ingredients to make brownies into the jar so they layer like a sand thing... then make your own little label with baking isntructions on... so cute..
I'm not usually so illiterate - its just been a very long day and now its late and i'm over tired so can't go to sleep anyway... !!

cdsmiler - well done you with the weight - i have to say i have been rubbish lately and have been weighing myself everyday to see me go up by 4 lb in the last week... must get on top of things.. i must i must i must!!!

Your nearet one to Manchester is the East Lancs Railway in Bury they have a 1940's weekend coming up at the end of this month

    http://east-lancs-rly.co.uk/?p=1940&m=40

with events on all weekend at Bury and Ramsbottom. But the highlight of the show will the Flypast of a Dakota aircraft on the Sunday at 11.45am.
It's a really good weekend this one, we went last year and took the FIL and he really loved it, we stayed at Bury though and didn't go on a train ride, but are planning to this year.

They have lots of other events through the year and and Steam and Deisel pulled trains most weeks. And a lovely Real Ale Pub on the Station.

I will dig out the leaflets later and see what others are near by.

Were only up the road from manchester too. Bit futher from the Airport in Ashton but right on the flightpath, and I must agree the planes have been sounding odd, and louder this past few weeks.

Another thing you could look at if he likes planes would be an Airshow, Quite a few coming up, but they are a bit futher away

    RAF Cosford - June

    RAF Waddington - July

Always a good day out, but not so money saving :o

I know, he is becoming a right little stephen speilburg (sp?) Very MSE though, have found some software FREE online, and rather than buying the screen material after searching the good old internet found that a sheet of wood evenly painted green would do the job :j so thats what we did, wood cost £5.00 and the paint was £8.00. Just need to get the lighting right as it needs to be lit evenly or it wont work, we are just using desk lamps IYKWIM but need to buy another one for the top.

He loves anything to do with cameras, he's not brilliant just yet but he is getting better. I've just got him on a after school course thing where they look at filming, directing, lighting, stage/ costume design and its only £2.50 a week which is a bargin, so hopefully that will help him a bit.

He he - I live in Bury!!!

The train ride up to Rawtenstall is lovely - it goes through Ramsbottom (no pun intended there! :p) - sometimes on Sundays they have nice markets at Ramsbottom - you can get off the train at any stop and then get back on and continue your journey.

They also do special trains depending on time of year etc - Santa specials, ride and dine etc

Sorry to be cheeky, but Cosford is a brillaint airshow, went many yrs ago with my ex, I'm 30mins this side of it, but the last couple of years there been fun and games over the trains, the station stops at cosford, (from memory), down the steps 30 secs ur there.... but from our end they were doing combined rail and entrance tickets, there wasn't enough trains on and a lot of people missed out.

My Uncle goes by car, think the last time he said get there early a gd 3 hrs b4 it starts, he said he waited till a wack of the traffic moved, as someone he knew had the bright idea to get going as soon as the traffic moved...... 3 hrs later he got to the gates.

Another thought re the steam rail - a lot of them do driver training days as gifts, theres usually a link on the website, but the festival or special weekends are great. xx
