Glad everyones finding this topic useful :-)
I'm not an expert on history eraser programs. I think they are a lot of hype really. You can easily clear you history yourself.
To clear Do this:
Goto Tools/internet options
Hit delete cookies button
Hit delete files button
Hit Clear History

If you want a fantastic browser that stops pop-up windows, advertisements and even flash animations or pictures at the click of a button you should try Avant Browser http://www.avantbrowser.com/.
It's completely free with no spyware and has loads of extra features that Internet Explorer only dreams of.0 -
Hi all,
Try this Firewall and Antivirus package from Computer Associates.
Free for 12 months - simple to set up and updates itself automatically. I've found it really good... (in combination with Ad Aware)

Thanks for the tips. I wanted to download the kerio personal firewall but it doesn't seem to provide it for Windows 95, only Windows 98 and upwards. Would it matter if I tried to download it anyway?
This was also the case for zonealarm - Windows 98 and upwards users ony ??? I didn't know I was so old fashioned! Win95 works perfectly well for me. 8)
Win95 stopped being supported by everyone a while ago. But basically this rule applys to the majority of applications:
A win 95 program will work on 98 & Me
A Win 98 program will work on Me & 95
and an Me program will work on 95 & 98-34k to 0 from september '05

Hi Debbie. am using same 4 here.
Did a night school course on html last year. Lecturer was very tight and very keen to point out that most desired software is available somewhere for free.
No need to "steal" it haha.
I found HTML Toolkit brilliant

I also use Kerio, all be it an older version which has a slightly different range of facilities which are no longer in the "free" version.
This older version (which doesn't need any updating) has much to commend it and, though it recently became unavailable from Kerio's own site, may be downloaded via the Yahoo group devoted to Kerio:

Kerio, AVG, Ad-Aware & Spybot definitely work for me: sound advice, I reckon. Using Opera also helps.
Cheers!0 -
Thanks debeast
I have downloaded the programs mentioned and all work fine now (I did not realise I had to switch off the Windows XP Firewall before installing Kerio so I had to uninstall Kerio and install it once Windows XP firewall was switched off - I do not know how to uninstall the Windows XP firewall so hopefully switching it off will do!!)
My one remaining problem is what to do to stop spam. Is there a compatibility problem with the spam blockers and what I have already installed - some of the ones I have read about seem to offer similar functions?
Cheers

Erasing your surfing history using 'delete cookies and temporary internet files', does NOT get rid of the hidden url's which contain a full history of where you've been surfing.
More information and a small utility called spider which I have used on win 98 (may work on xp - haven't tried it yet) may be found here.
http://www.fsm.nl/ward/index.html
Just a note of caution - using 'spider' could cause the loss of previously stored passwords if used indiscriminately, so if you've forgotten your login passwords for ebay or hotmail or anything which might be stored in cookies etc. be careful, but that's true of any program which deletes cookies and history stuff.
I have no connection with the author of this program
Great site Martin
