Hi Guys,
This thread makes very interesting reading but still leaves me a little confused.
I have a laptop running on XP with Norton System Works 2004 installed and also Adaware.
I also have a PC running on ME but no other software installed (like antivirus at the moment)
Any suggestions.
Laptop I use mainly whilst PC used by kids.
Thanx in advance everybody.

Hi,
I use a program called Secretmaker which is free via Download.com. This has Spam/Worm hunter, Banner Blocker, Pop-up killer, Privacy Protector (sends phantoms), Cookie Eraser and History cleaners. It has regular updates, is easy to use and I've had it for about 4 months with no probs. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. > I use Kerio (http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_home.html) as its free for home use and doesn't contain loads of spyware like ZoneAlarm.
I was astonished to read this accusation about ZoneAlarm. Indeed, a quick Google confirmed that not only is ZA Kosher, it is also rated the best firewall.
If you want to check, just search on "zonelarm spyware" or see

Fao Debeast!
Hello....the travel bit is my 'home' so new to this forum.....
Do you know of any freeware that i can download that is a history eraser-ESPECIALLY the search items put in to say google. I've tried various free progs but none seem to erase the entries on google...ie if I'm searching for Malta & I've previously searched for 'maria from coronation street' (I am sad!) then the 'maria' search entry 'drops' down for all to see!
Also...as I work from home my company sometimes 'dial-in' & I don't particularly want them to know what I've searched for ...etc-any ideas?

TRAVELMAN - You don't need any special software. Select tools>Internet Options on your toolbar and you can turn off the Autocomplete which is trying to "guess" what you are entering. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hi there
Google Fix
Not sure of any software that automatically clears the autotext field in google but you can turn it off and stop it remembering by going to
tools/internet options
then Content
then hit autocomplete
then untick the forms box
ZoneAlarm
In response to the zone alarm query, all i'm saying is that ZA is doing something odd to the packets which are passing through it and it also uploads something to it's server. Read the articals on security at the link i've provided.
Just remember everyone thought worldcom was a reputable company. Just because the majority of ppl believe it doesn't make it true and vise versa
thats it.
hope this helps

Talk about quick response!!!
Cheers guys!
Just done the autocomplete bit!
Can either of you recomend a free history erazer (apparently there is some file in windows that is a system file & can't ever be deleted...but some of the erasers 'overwrite' with a string of 'oooooo's' or useless info?!).
As said before...our base units sometimes have to go back to have noew software put on ...etc..& one girl who's left the company is convinced that the rumour that she 'swings both ways' (!) was found from this file by the techincal bods when they 'cleared' her computer when it was sent back!
Cheap holidays for answers (!!)

I currently use Zonealarm (which is fine) but reading about Kerio I am interested in changing to that. However, they state it is more complicated than Zonealarm. The stuff they talk about on the website is beyond my knowledge - do you think Kerio is only suitable for advanced users or would I be able to work it out with some limited knowledge?
Also, if I decide to change, can I install it before removing Zonealarm or would I have to uninstall it first?
You can easily use Kerio even with limited knowledge.
For helpful guidance on using Kerio, see:

(this is the site for newcomers)

(these sites are for reference or more advanced users)
I thoroughly recommend Sponge's site, quoted above:

You can download a free toolbar from Google that will provide you with various tools including a link to Google search, an form autofiller (automatically puts things like your name, address & e-mail address into the appropriate boxes of a form) and a POP-UP blocker. Go to http://toolbar.google.com/ to download it or read more about it.
Also, don't forget that you can also clear all of your autocomplete history from the same place you use to stop it remembering any further entries. (from Internet Explorer go to Tools, Internet Options, Content, AutoComplete, Clear Forms)0
