A friend of mine actually put the sales into perspective for me by telling me :
" I dont do sales, if I didnt like something enough to buy it at full price, then I'm not going to buy it just because it's cheaper".
It took me a while to see her point but now I get it & have probably saved a lot of money.
I agree in the main; browsing the sales in the hope of finding something wonderful for £3 doesn't appeal to me; if I hadn't noticed it before, then I wouldn't be interested now. However, I do think sales are great for items you'd already been lusting after.0 -
Count me in. I've already set myself this challenge for the year but its great to find a whole group doing the same thing. In for the £100.
Counting all clothes, will definately need some work trousers at some point so very little room for luxuries. Not counting socks, tights or knickers, or replacements for my ballet shoes if they die over the summer.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Hello, I've been looking round and spoted some hints and tips for credit crunch style (as its called), so I have picked out a few bits. I haven't read through this whole thread, so my apologies if this has been posted before and I hope that there are some ideas for those of us re vamping our wardrobes this year.
You take your annual budget and you divide it in two: Spring/ Summer and Autumn/ Winter. Summer clothes are cheaper, so a bit less than for winter.
Before spending any money go through your Spring/Summer or Autumn/ Winter wardrobe. You're going to resuscitate as much in there as you possibly can. Stains? Treat them. Repairs? Do them. Would a higher hem work? Some beading? Could you dye that blouse a brighter colour? Would new ear-rings perk it up?
Wash, iron, hang or fold every single precious item properly. Even your scarves. Make it look just as tempting as a lovely shop in there. It is a shop, your own personal shop where everything inside fits and suits you, so love what's there already.
Now bags and shoes. Round them up. You are going to wax, cream, nourish and polish that leather, brush, clean and spray that suede. There will be re-heeling, there will be crushed tissue paper stuffing. Spray those shoes every time you wear them, put them on shoe trees and let them recover. These ideas come from a book (not sure if I can name it), I havent read it, but this was an extract from another webby.
Many thanks for thinking up such a great money saving idea and I'm really looking forward to seeing how everyone gets on and also creative ways for re doing the wardrobe!
That's a great quote Avogirly. I'm aiming not to spend more than a quarter of my budget by the end of March - £25 sounds such a tiny amount! I should probably spend some on shoe repairs, some could do with re-heeling. But still no spend so farDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Okay, danger time! I'm going to Nottingham for four days...where I normally go bananas in the shops! I have £18.37 to spend, and hopefully not a penny of it on clothes...
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time0 -
count me in please for £100
Whoops already spent some yesterday but only at Matalan so at sale prices not bad!
A long cardi @ £4.50
A chunky card @ £12.50
2 turtle neck jumpers @ £6 each - well did seriously need some wool against my skin for this cold weather!!!
Found a fabulous little coat for the spring @ £17.50, I know that won't count in the 'home clothes' challenge but it was a really good buy.
Total spent out of my £100 then is already £28.00
I had already put expenditure as a New Years resolution, particularly on shopping channels, but decided on 1 Jan to try the Diet Chef meals to lose some weight, so that went bang out of the window!!!!
Good luck everyone x

Please can I join this challenge too?
I don't think I normally spend much on clothes, but have never actually kept track. I have a wardrobe full, probably for every occasion, so I don't anticipate that I will actually need to buy anything new (except for undies, tights and shoes), but I will include those within the £100 limit.
Funny how I just had the urge to check the sales sites before signing up, but have resisted........for now!Need to lose 23lb, but need help!:( DFW Weightwatcher: 5lb/26lbDecluttered in Feb - 49/100, Mar - 82/100
