However, the next town about 10 mins away have a better quality of clothes (more designer) and the prices are doubled. One of our charity shops often sells childrens clothes BOGOF so a top and a pair of trousers for £1.25 is a bargain to me!:j
I just popped into one now... lots of things were for £7 or more, some things as much as £15! They really are top quality though - they look just like they would off the rack brand new and they don't smell funny :-)Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000Debt free as of 1 October, 2010

Hi everyone,
NGlady, thanks for the post about virtual wardrobe, it was mentioned on last year's thread but I'm sure the newcomers to this challenge will be very grateful.
Swinstie73 - sorry I got your total wrongwill amend in a minute
Welcome to Loopychriss & welcome back to jm28 cardiff- you did pretty well last year so I'm sure you'll do even better this time around.
Interesting to see the charity debate continuing, I do agree with them in principle (reusing, recycling & charitable) and there are a quite a few in a nearby town but due to the affluent area, the prices for used high street items are outrageous & I'm not going to be ripped off by a charity shop when I can get used stuff that's clean & cheaper on ebay .
I donate my used stuff to particular charity shops ( I dont sell anything, if I dont want it then I'd sooner donate it) that I personally agree with, rather than just continue mass consumption of unnecessary clothes just at cheaper prices.
I'm not & never will be a fashion victim & have never suffered from envy or the need to impress anyone else; thank goodness or I'd probably have twice the debt I do now ;)0 -
I'm not a charity shopper really, do buy fake fur coats from them every Winter though cos they're only £10. I don't buy labels but do work in and love fashion so try to put stuff together that looks nice on the cheap. It's quite an art form I tell you!'The road to a friends house is never long'0

Hello :hello:
Please can I sign up ? I signed up last year & spent my total in about a month, but have been looking out for this thread this year ( must have missed it as I've only just noticed it). I'm a lot more resolute this year and have my notebook with my MSE challenges in.
I've not spent anything in the 2 days so far of 2010, so I'm on track.
I'm declaring a budget of £100 for all clothes (home & work) except lingerie, tights, socks & shoes and also excluding the outfit I'll buy for my brother's wedding later this year.[STRIKE]DFW Nerd number 729[/STRIKE]Debt Free & Proud0 -

I'd love to join in with this thread. I lost a lot of weight last year and now have a wardrobe of clothes for any occasion. I'd like to budget for £150, which is to include socks, underwear, bags, coats and shoes. I really don't 'need' anything at the moment!0

Hi laurasavon,
welcome to the wonderful world of DFW & the crazy clothes challenge, will add you in right away.0 -
Yes dobs, it does say on the first page that you can increase your allowance by selling unwanted clothes.
However, I started this challenge last year to help me spend LESS on clothes so that I could pay MORE off the debts & that is still my main motivation for doing this challenge. I would therefore recommend that anyone with debts who makes money be selling clothes, actually uses that spare money to pay more off the debt.
You know it makes sense
Yes actually i have to admit i did this last yr, then got the ebay clothes buying bug and spent all my paypal money i wanted to save for xmas and didn't need half of what i bought! Will probably be listing it all nxt month lolgrocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000 -

Thanks for the welcome Lula-Hula..... I agree 100% with you. I like to support the charity shops, but some of the ones I've been in recently have second hand clothes selling at a higher price than I could get them new in Bon Marche or Primark!
I did get a really good bargain in one last year: I got a handbag that they sell on Ideal World, think it's called a Velouti or something, with a zip off bottom bit. I got it for £4.50, checked the website when I got home, it was over £40! Mine is a lovely lime green colour though....!! One day I'll pluck up the courage to take it out in public! Another impulse buy...Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing
