Hi, I know entierly how you feel and I have often wondered about this myself - I wouldn't dream of shopping in a charity shop, although I will happily swap clothes with a woman the other side of the country that she has worn. I think the difference between Bigwardrobe and charity shops are, you actually know in a small way the person whose sending them, so they are going to be looked after as people get bad reps for sending poor clothes. They are also like you, majorily into fashion and style and just trying to do this on a shoe-string so you get a lot in common, so its a lot safter than Ebay. There is some BNWT stuff but people are as the above poster says generally shoppaholics, buy something weaer once and then want a new outfit, so normally there worn once clothes.
Hope im not going to get in trouble for talking about Bigwardrobe!

Well, not having a go at you but BNWT to me means never worn, so that's false advertising. I've got loads of stuff to get rid of, a lot with tags still but only ever tried, not worn.
I'm not NGlady, but I buy things from charity shops, and yes, they do have new stuff. Mostly from people like myself who (used to) buy things on impulse and then never wear them. I've bought things brand new still with tags on. I also buy other clothes (never underwear though) and just put them through the washing machine. No difference between doing that and buying new and washing after 1 wear...!

Thanks Loopy, I've bought BNWT items off Oxfam online but the thought of wearing something someone else has makes me feel physically sick. In shops, I always ask for a fresh item from the back too if I can or get it online.

Well, its up to you - I know your not having a ago at me :) But surely if you've tried your clothes on they have been worn, as they've been put onto a body. But seriously where else can you get an amazing outfit for a night out for the cost of a outfit they doesnt fit/isnt your colour/been seen to many times plus 2 quid postage :)

Quite cross with myself for only making it to 2nd Jan before making a purchase BUT I have needed a new short denim skirt for ages as I lost weight and my old one actually falls down so, went on Oxfam and got a Topshop one for £4.49 in the sale...hurrah! Will be selling old one on ebay so hopefully will regain some of that money anyway, so, overall, quite happy! :T

Im lucky to live near some wonderful charity shops - I really cant imagine that the things there would put anyone off! Some aren't really dirt cheap (£7 or so for the high end of what they have), but they do have genuinely great quality stuff. I spent ages looking in real shops for a shift dress for work, couldn't find one that fit properly no matter where I looked and they were all over £40 anyway. Popped into Oxfam and sure enough there was one that fit perfectly (not too tight as those things tend to be), far better quality than anything I had seen in the other shops and all for £7.99! I get loads of compliments on it and proudly tell everyone where its from, and they all look at me in jealousy!

Granted, I'm lucky to be quite a popular size (10), so there is lots in there that fits me and I understand this isn't the case for many people.

I'll admit that I cheated a bit on the challenge by getting one or two things in before NYE in the sales - nothing major, but I did spend about £20 on exercise clothes that I desperately needed as my previous running trousers disappeared somewhere on a business trip to Bangladesh! Wont count these towards the total, but everything from here on out will go right into the sig...

    Hi everyone,

& welcome to pammyj74, will add you to the list in a minute.

learn2cope - got to be honest; I'm with bethg2009 when it comes to charity shops. If primarni are doing them cheaper (& they dont smell funny ) then I'd rather shop there :o.

Well everyone who has resisted & as luxor4t says ... only another 364 days to go

I think the price of charity shops depends where you live. In my town I can get an entire outfit for £10 (sometimes including a bag) as we have lots of charity shops who compete. However, the next town about 10 mins away have a better quality of clothes (more designer) and the prices are doubled. One of our charity shops often sells childrens clothes BOGOF so a top and a pair of trousers for £1.25 is a bargain to me!:j

    2014 Challenges:
    Attempting to snowball to freedom!
  • Put me down for £100 all in, no exclusions.
  • First pair of shoes on e bay, 100 pounds still intact.

As I sell clothes and shoes on e bay so my spending money will go up.

The big problem is that I am going to need a winter coat, I have a cheap one from last year and one that is a bit too small for me.

we shall see what bargains I can find and what my profit is like on ebay

    take care all
