Didn't have time to read 32 pages of comments but man, this guy sounds like a tool (and I'm being polite!)
I would probably lodge a formal complaint against him at work and see if there is any legal recourse for slander.
Hope it all works out and this idiot is fired for this. He needs a life lesson in keeping his mouth shut!0 -

Not the first time suing for slander has been mentioned and initially I didn't think it much of a goer. My knowledge of such things are the sensational cases that occasionally make the main news. Wealthy people suing other wealthy people or large organizations.
The OP has said that these cases cost a lot to bring and suing a sales manager is unlikely to makethe OP a millionaire.
However as it is being treated as a work matter then can't the sales manager be seen to be acting on behalf of the company. Would that entitle the OP to sue the company jointly with the manager?
If it were a reasonable sized company then there may be some mileage in giving this more consideration at a future date.
OP is quite rightly concentrating on the more immediate problem at the moment.0 -
The prospect of an action for defamation is more of a threat than a likelihood, but it would be against the company. If they are claiming these events took place in a work related environment then they are vicariously liable for any tort committed by their employee, ergo the sales manager "slandered" the OP so both the company and he can be sued.
The problem will be as much evidential as funding.0 -
or it may simply be the case or keeping it in mind when discussing damages at an employment tribunal should the worst occur and the op is (unjustly) disposed of.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

To my knowledge he's on leave at the approval of the occ health woman until the 28th at which point they'll book him back in for a meeting regarding his suspension.
I expect he'll post back after the 28th when he gets a letter rescheduling this hearing.
