Anihilator reminds me of the Dad in that Harry Enfield sketch who always intruded on his daughter and son in law "Oh you don't want to do that!". He was never right of course...0

What passed behaviour ? So he's ruffled a few feathers in his workplace, who hasn't ? It's impossible to get on with everyone for various reasons. To say things like the Manager has more people backing him etc is very juvenile and belongs in the playground. It makes absolutely no difference in a situation like this.
Having a personality that may or may not be liked in a workplace does not excuse a Manager for accusing that person of being a druggie and provoking a possible volatile situation. That is so unprofessional - he was also very drunk (free bar) and if he had any suspicions should of waited until Monday morning and then dealt with it then. Instead he took it upon himself to judge and sentence the OP that night and spread the rumours !!
Seriously, who is at fault here ?0 -

Well the OP can make a seperate grievance. Its still not going to change his own threatening behaviour.
As for that being juvenile. Thats how employment law works. The employer needs to decide on probabilities who is telling the truth. If five people back the manager and 1 the OP then the probability is obvious.0 -

What truth though ? The OP will admit that he lost his cool and swore - thats a truth !!
Those 5 will not be able to back the Managers claim that the OP is a druggie, they will just say "yes, he swore". They will not say "we believe the Manager is right in thinking the OP is a druggie" will they ?
You seem to be missing the point, which is the Manager started all this with his accusations whilst drunk himself. Would he of done the same with sober mind ?
I honestly think this Manager has made a rod for his own back in that he did something silly whilst drunk (accuse then told people about it), it has escalated into something bigger than he thought it would. But instead of just letting it go he feels compelled to see it through as his own repution will be on the line if he doesn't.
He has no evidence to back up his claim and has now gone down the threatening behaviour route.
As it's a serious accusation your employer has had to act and probably rightly so as they don't want all this acted out on their premises. You need to use this time and opportunity to get your counter grievence together backed by a solicitor and submit accordingly to your HR dept ASAP. I would also contact your GP to explain and arrange a blood test.
No idea of what the outcome will be but if your employer has anything about them they won't look too kindly to the Manager and his behaviour. But if they don't you have to ask yourself "do I want to work for these muppets anymore" ? So start looking for alternative employment to.0 -
It wont matter whether they can prove the drug use accusation. The aggressive and threatening behaviour is a dismisal on its own.
The OP should have protested his innocence calmly and left at the point the manager started arguing.
Instead he made a rod for his own back because everyone except one drunk pal - who probably is equally disliked as the OP - is backing the manager and it now looks like the OP as well as taking drugs then became aggressive and threatening.
Unless the manager was about to assault the OP he is as good as sacked.0 -
As I posted earlier you can reasonably, IMHO, put down your reaction on the night to being falsely accused of drug use.
When you you go to the meeting just stick to the facts.
You state that
2) My letter of suspension states that I am supended on full pay in relation to
i) Use of drug substances
ii)Sustained threatening behavior(sic) and verbal abuse towards XXXXX, UK Sales Manager
i) you are in the clear here as you are not a "user"
ii) What do they mean by "sustained" - there is an inference here that it is more than a one off. This would be of more concern to me.
It would also help the OP if others on this thread stopped quoting Anihilator as the OP now has him/her on ignore. Just a thoughtWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
Anihilator - pack it in. And stop making assumptions.
You are flogging a dead horseWe all evolve - get on with it0 -

The accusation made against him holds as much credence as your wild assumptions. We all evolve - get on with it0

The "drunk mate" who is "equally disliked" several hours earlier was awarded the service of the year award for the dedication and commitment he has shown throughout his (relatively recent) emplyment with the firm.
To say his viewpoints are invalid are truly incredulous. You need to take a long hard look in the mirror Anihilator, i find it fantastical you take such pleasure in giving people terrible news... maybe you should work on a terminal cancer ward.
I'm starting to wonder if you ARE my UK sales manager with a net based alter ego....0
