Hey SanFran :hello: Just spotted your thread (well, it was right next to mine!)
Woooo I'm jealous that you have two good sources of discounted food! What time do you go to them? I have no idea when shops starts discounting, that's bad isn't it?
I think you could actually do more than a month of this, as you seem to be doing so well!
btw, if you are freezing veg, I recommend going to your nearest B&M homestore (I think that's what it's called) and buy their version of these: http://www.lakeland.co.uk/mini-airtight-boxes/F/C/storing-preserving/C/storing-preserving-food-storage/product/3041
(yeah I know, I'm encouraging you to buy, when I'm not suppose to!) BM sells them for 10 containers for £1. They are the perfect portion sizes for freezing veg. I usually pull out a few containers out of the freezer and mix them into anything I'm making.0 -
Thanks for that PN.
I actually got sorted with these a few months ago, B&M had a vegan noodle dish thing that was good for about 35p.
Needless to say I bought about a dozen of them!
the pot and lid are totally microwavable and I have been using them for the last couple of months.
Because of the lids the boys can use them without any mess in the mirco as well as the freezer.
The prices start to drop around lunch time, so I go and see whats around then, the shop closes at 8 so the real give away prices start around 6pm till they close.
You watch after the N/Y i will be lucky to get a few manky sprouts!Ebay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50

Aren't they fab? I don't know how I coped before without those little tupperwares. They make me happy... I think I need professional help actually...
I'm confused, why would it be harder after the new year?0 -
I guess because everyone has bought a truckload to last this week, everything with todays date on will be harder to sell. If people are veggied out.:D
Hopefully this is just me looking for problems, and ways to get around them before they happen.
But if this happens Chick pea curry anyone?:cool:Ebay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50

I had a nice stir fry today with the sweetcorn/snap peas, mushrooms, onion, and the last of a very wilted celery. I added to that a jar of sweet/sour sauce. With some rice.
Today I picked up some :-

Mmmmmm stir fry!
I guess you can get a lot of stir fry on cheap because those vegs go off quickly.
Have you tried cw18's spreadsheet? She's got columns for you to record how much money you are saving by buying woopsies. Working out how much you are saving by doing this will be a huge motivator to carry on!0 -
I've just seen this thread and wanted to say it is good to see someone else who doesn't stuff themselves with turkey and trimmings just because everyone else is. We had chilli and nachos [and have done for years now] on Christmas day.
I don't buy cheap veg on offer mainly because I have an allotment! And if you are stuck for ideas for parsnips, then try Bungled Mash. This is when I have lots of veg to serve up and run out of ideas, I boil up whatever veg I have, and instead of mashing it I beat it around the pan with a wooden spoon, some butter/marge and seasonings. It ends up sort of mash, but with big bits still in; and sprouts and parsnips work really well with it. Goes well with yorkie puddings and roast spuds.0 -

This is a cunning plan coz I can't cook:o
To tell the truth the sauce was 5 months out of date:eek: but it tasted OK and we all feel fine today.

Ow can you send this link for this, not good at spreadsheets but both the boys are math geeks, so they could help out.Ebay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50

My boys love chilli, I make up the *mince* from mung beans as they do not like mince substitutes, must make some for them one day soon.

Ow yeah thank for that, thinking about it I used to do this when the children were weaning, just bland with no spices, however now I could do it with mustard/marmite to jazz it up a little, and if I am really feeling generous could even top it off with some crisps:DEbay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50

you can just PM her with your email addy - she can often be found here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2107349&page=34
She is so efficient, she sent me the spreadsheet within 5 minutes of me PMing her! (of course, don't do what I did of the classic error in forgetting to actually give her my email addy).0
