Having a wee bit of a wobble about the wedding! Now, I'm not having a Bridezilla moment and obviously it's each to there own, but a guy in work who got engaged before me (only found out he was engaged a week before I got engaged), told me at the night out that they had possibly set a date. I've asked him a few times and until now they hadn't. Turns out, it's might be the week before ours (they've not actually booked it). Brilliant I said (at the time), but now I've thought about it, it doesn't bode well for us inviting people from work. There are a lot of guys (engineers who all work together) and only me and one other woman. So it looks like he will invite everyone, who will go to his wedding and because ours is less than a week later, they won't come to ours. I mean, seriously, who would want to go to two weddings within six days of each other. I know I probably wouldn't, for financial reasons mainly. I'm trying not to let it get to me, and of course I don't know that people wouldn't come to ours, it's just a gut feeling I have. Think I'll have to re-think the guest list and invite family I never see just to make up the numbers. See, this is why I don't 'do' parties and the like, I always panic no-one will come.
Sorry for the negativity, must read more of The Secret to get my good vibes up again. Night all x0 -
Hey Swinstie,
Hugs! Please don't worry! Those that matter to you will make the effort. I was worried that people wouldn't come to my reception because I had decided on a toned down reception. However everyone who I really wanted there was there.
On to other things - hope you'll be ok with the weather. It's not at all nice up there!

Thanks urg, I know you are right. The thing is I wasn't even planning on asking everyone at work anyway (there are loads of them), but feel like I now need to invite everyone so maybe even a few will come IYKWIM.
Anyway, day is going ok so far, not spent any money yet as the canteen had a meeting on so I didn't get any breakfast, went to Morrison's at lunch-time and couldn't get what I was looking for so now gonna have to pop to the shops after work, bah! They will be busy so it'll need to be a case of in and out (before I end up looking at clothes etc.) I do not need clothes, I do not need clothes.......

Why would you need to invite people "Just to make up the numbers"? Remember, that there are only a very few people who are actually important to the whole this. In terms of people who "HAVE" to be there, there are actually only 2 - you and your OH. If you were told you could get married, but nobody else could be there other than you two, would you still want to marry him? Of course you would! So, invite the people you want there, and leave it at that. I think you're just having a stressy moment - and it will blow over in no time. have a dodgy :grouphug: (My god I WISH they weren;t bending their knees!)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks Essex, I know you are right and now I've had time to calm down and reflect, I know that I don't need to invite loads of people (especially from work). I've only got a couple of close female friends as I work in a very male-orientated environment - you know the kind where they churn out kids and you never know about it cos they don't talk about 'non-manly' things like babies! In saying that I don't miss the mostly female environment I used to work in. Just felt as though it was either going to be family I don't see or guys from work who probably won't come anyway. I hate big shindigs but at the same time, I'd be mortified if I needed to change the venue to a phone-box!!!
Anyway, onwards and upwards! Finances are still going ok, it's maddening me to think though that even though my debt is currently at £1850, it was at this amount a few months ago and I could be almost debt free by now. Now looking on the positive, I AM almost debt free - it'll be weird being debt free but still having a Visa bill IYKWIM - the reason being is that some wedding items have been paid on my Visa. I will continue paying this off but will get the money back come September when our savings account matures. Positive thoughts, positive thoughts.......0 -
Morning all, only two more sleeps til Santa gets here.....
Well I can honestly say that 2010 has had it's ups and downs for me - ups being, getting engaged to my gorgeous OH, paying off my loan, downs, well there's not been that many thankfully, any I'm trying to think of seem quite trivial in the grand scheme of things.
My debt has reduced from £14.5K to £1,850 in just over two years, which is not great for some people but brilliant for others (i.e. me). I did add quite a bit and to be honest, I'm glad I did (for most things - like hols) as I still believe life is too short to be TOO strict with the budget. In saying that as we have the wedding and house to save for, I'm going to do my best to stick to my new budget as tight as possible. I've actually raised my non-bill spends from £255 a month to £280 as I felt this was too tight. I know it's not increased by much but hopefully I'll not stray over £280 each month the way I strayed waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy over the £255 every month.
So, I have loads to do the next day or so, mainly cooking and preparing a Christmas Eve meal for 4 and a Christmas dinner for OH's Mum and Dad, so I will say Merry Christmas now and thanks to anyone still reading, hoping you will stay with me til I announce I'm debt free - which should be March 2011 - thank goodness I hear you say!
P.S. Will be back in between the hols xx0 -
Merry Christmas Swinstie! :xmassmile
Here's to a brilliant New Year!
I think you've done a fantastic job of clearing your debt in just two years AND showing you can still have a life whilst doing so. :TI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -

Thanks guys!
Just a wee update (nothing exciting), but I have managed to make chicken and rice soup for the first time and it's delish! Also have taken turkey breast out freezer so I can hopefully cook tomorrow night, also done my boiled ham - it is devine (I keep eating bits of it, oops).
Just going to leave to cool then slice and put on a plate for dinner tomorrow. Does anyone know how I re-heat it? Do I just stick in in the oven in tin foil? It's lovely and tender so I don't want to dry it out.
Getting in the Christmas mood now, thank goodness!
P.S. Forgot to ask, does anyone watch Ugly Betty, OMG I cried for almost two hours last night, that along with me clapping every so often made me look like a mad-woman (yes I was watching it alone). Another dvd to add to my list for next Christmas (got series one and two already). Well night all x0
