Oh my! What a mare! Glad you are home safe. I can't believe you have had so much snow! Thankfully you are not stuck at work! Hope you have warmed up and get a good night's rest.

  • It's seriously bad up your way isn't it Swinstie - we don't have so much as a flake left down here now. Glad to hear you managed to get back from work OK - your poor colleagues stuck there though - are they there for the night or did they manage to get away eventually?

    Morning,

Well no work today, we are heavily snowed in. Managed to get a good nights sleeps but have had a nervous tummy all morning thinking about having to go to work, luckily was told to stay at home. It is really bad up here Essex, people have been stuck in cars all night, the amount of abandoned cars on the roads is unbelievable. Might try and walk to my mum's today as I can't face another day stuck in without transport - shops are cleared out of food too but not starting to panic yet as I got some provisions in a couple of days ago. Got a huge ham joint (for Christmas Eve) but I'll cook and eat that if need be.

The people in work didn't get home, they were there all night. Just going to text one of the guys now to see if it's any better today. Horrendous.

Got a concert at the SECC tomorrow night, if they don't cancel it, they are being irresponsible to say the least. People can't even get home from work and they expect them to try getting to a concert!

Well have a good day everyone and for anyone with no snow, you are soooooooooooo lucky!

Well after not getting to work today and with a severe bout of cabin fever, I decided to walk the 5 miles from my house to my mum's - bad idea! It was ok going the way as the sun was out and it was lovely crunching through the snow, but coming back was a nightmare. I had already met my boss (in his 4 x 4) who offered to run me to my mum's but I said I'd be ok but might need to call him on the way home. Took me an hour and fifty mins to get there which was ok, but on the way back it was FREEZING! Text him after walking for 20 mins and he came and got me, it was horrendous, pity those people trapped in cars last night, they must have been frozen.

Anyway, home now and making dinner, so hungry.

Also called the SECC this morning and they said had no plans to cancel tonight's or tomorrow night's concerts, lo and behold tonights is now cancelled. I'm praying for tomorrow's to be cancelled too, as much as I want to go, we'll never get there (and will be mad trying to), so here's hoping.

I'll cross my fingers for a cancellation for you then Swinstie - as you say it would be crazy if they didn't cancel it, and if tonights has been then that suggests that they are looking to be sensible at least.

    Morning all,

Well made it to work today albeit a lift in a 4 x 4. My boss if off on Friday so I'm dreading having to get my car home (probably on Thursday) then trying to get to work on Friday. A holiday beckons methinks.

Still no word on the concert but then again, not sure at what time last night's concert was cancelled, it was on the website when I checked around 4pm but surely they'd let us know before that. OH will not manage down so if all else fails and it goes ahead, my neice will be dragged into going so as to not waste a ticket. My sister's car should manage to get us there but I'd really rather not.

Came into work fully loaded with porridge and lunch but I caved in and had a roll on sausage and a latte, it tasted so nice.

Not feeling Christmassy this year, have had enough of this snow now, it was so cold this morning my fingers nearly stuck to my keys when I was locking my front door. It was -15 on the way in today, brrrrrrrrhhhh

    Money-grabbing b*****ds!

The concert is going ahead, despite the M8 being at a standstill yet again. I hope the Scissor Sisters enjoy playing to their small audience and the promoter's really should be congratulated on their nice little money-making scheme i.e. keep people's money who cannot attend the concert. We'll certainly not be dicing with death tonight!

Ok, so we made the concert, albeit hairy ride getting there. My sister's OH drove and he's quite used to drving in not so great conditions, so we got there safely and the concert was quite good so glad we made it. OH couldn't make it so my neice went instead, was a very late night though.

So, nothing much else to report on the money-side of things, debt still creeping towards £0 so still looking good.

I have (potentially) managed to save us £300 on wedding costs, it was going to cost us £495 for my ring (in platinum as engagement ring is plat) and £255 for OH's ring in palladium, BUT on trawling the net and also calling a jeweller to ask advise, I can get a palladium ring also as it's in the platinum family i.e. won't wear it down like other metals. So, OH's ring will be around £275 and mines £150 - £175 (he deserves more spent on him as he bought my engagement ring which was dearer). So a saving of £300, woo woo!

Brings our wedding budget to under £4K, more savings could be had nearer the time once we know exact costs, it's hard when only got a rough budget, but trying to stick to it as much as possible. If we can keep it to £4K or under then it will all be paid in cash, fab!
  • Well done on doing the research on the rings Swinstie - friends of mine who got married recently went for Palladium for their rings and they are delighted with them!

That's good to hear Essex, showed OH them at the weekend and he thinks we should go the week between Christmas and New Year for a looksie. I'd rather get them now, or in a sale than risk the prices jumping way over our budget. The £300 saved is NOT going on other frivolous things.

Ok, so ideas needed, we have got whisky miniatures for the men and personalised (by myself) glass baubles for the woman (day guests only). My neice and nephew who will be 13 and 14 at the time are stumping me. Nephew too young for whisky and sister already getting a bauble so don't want them to end up with two. What could I get them? I have some pvc cubes (for the baubles) so could fill them with something, not too 'grown-up' or too 'young' though.

Do we need favours for evening guests? I'm thinking not but don't want to look cheap.
