Investors can also take heart from its limited exposure to the vagaries of the UK consumer. Like its main rivals, its shares trade at discount to embedded value of 277p. In a devastated sector this may not be enough to mark out Standard Life. Hopes of a bid might be.

They are a decent yield I think, might as well hold is my thought. All the insurance results recently have been good in times when poor results are common and I think these shares have been more resilient recently.
To me this means share price growth in the future, 2.58 seems good now but I'd only recommend selling while hoping to rebuy at a lower price because I expect a good bounce above and beyond this level in future

After last week's stock market falls they are back up 24p = 10% on a surging stock market to 257p , helped by the ginormous US taxpayer bailout of the US mortgage market.
