    Hi - just wondering if there is any charge for reinvesting the dividends to get more shares?

    No, there is no commission to reinvest, you can logon via computershare website to change your decision to re-invest or take the cash.
    If it takes a man a week to walk to walk a fortnight how long does it take a fly with tackity boots on to walk through a barrel of treacle?

    Thanks - how do they value the holding - is it as simple as saying your dividend is worth £30 and the share value is £2.30 at the date they are going to pay you the dividend so you get 13 shares?

  • yes it would be the cash value divided by share price at a set time on a set day, then they will email or post you a statement.

    Details on the DRIP scheme are all online here;

    Could someone please help with a question on CGT - do you have to pay CGT on the difference in the value of the shares between what you paid for them and what you sold them for?If so does it mean that if you dont make any money above £9500 in any one year (which I think is the allowance) you dont have to pay CGT?
    Thanks.

    Correct.

    Bear in mind that the CGT allowance also takes in gains on furniture, gold, buy-to-let property and anything else you sell for a capital gain in the same tax year.

    Yahoo - Standard v the FTSE

    Up, ahead of the FTSE trend, to 263p :)

    Standard up 4%.

    FTSE up 2%.

    Insurance sector generally showing strength, rather than Standard in particular.

    I have a verstaile with profits fund - over 25 years, £50 a month, been paying for 10 years, current surrender value is only 6700, full term figures are lower - 19900, medium - 20900, higher 25000 (ish), is it worth surrendering this now as there's still 15 years to go, any advice welcome. p.s. I also have 247 shares currently worth about 650, I could do with the cash, are these likely to increase in value in the next couple of weeks and if i do sell them how long will it take for me to get the cash? Cheers everyone
