Standard Life Shares

Trying to get a share certificate from Computershare to transfer to Selftrade is like trying to get blood out of a stone! It's taken them 3 attempts to send the correct withdrawal form to enable requesting the share certificate. Haven't spoken to anyone there who knows what they're talking about, (not that I do, but I don't work for them) and the postal strike's not helping. By the time it's all gone through, the price will probably be £4!
If your Standard Life shares are held electronically by Computershare, you may be better off not getting a share certificate from them and transferring it to Selftrade.
Instead you may want to request that Computershare transfer the shares direct to Selftrade electronically.
This is because Computershare charge if you are moving your shares away from them, but Selftrade refund these charges if you are transferring your shares to them - hence a direct transfer between the two brokers might be easier.
I believe you should be able to use the Selftrade Dealing Account Transfer form to move your Standard Life shares to them* - after you have opened your account (if you don't already have one)
If you do want to contact Computershare, try the shareholder helpline on 0845 113 0045 (or try 0870 7020000) or e-mail: sl.queries@computershare.co.uk
Also, as I originally mentioned in post 589 don't forget to be referred by someone to Selftrade to get upto £80 for joining them, if not aready a customer (in addition to refunding any fees that Computershare charge)
Personally, I requested a paper certificate at flotation time and sent it to my brokers after getting the bonus shares last week.

Sunil
(you may want to check this with Selftrade but just remember to state you want to transfer the shares and don't want Computershare to sell them first and transfer the cash!)0 -
gt94sss2, many thanks. I was going to do what you suggest, however, when I contacted Selftrade a couple of weeks’ ago they said that to transfer electronically it would take 6 to 8 weeks for the transfer to go through. Because we wanted to sell the shares before then (if price is right), ended up requesting share certificate instead as they said this would take 10 working days to clear, once they had the certificate. They said they would reimburse the cost of the certificate on production of a receipt (I hope that’s correct!). I have asked Computershare for a receipt, but going on past experience of them so far, I’m not holding my breath. If Selftrade have given me incorrect information as well, will be glad to see the back of these shares!0

Who's hanging in there and what price might you sell at?

So I wasn't prepared in the end to sit out the 'last' 10% rise.
Good luck to you fellas - I hope it does reach £4 (an obvious target) but I was never in it for the long term - just as a means of recovering some of the poor returns on my old SL endowment. I'm satisfied with the overall return this has achieved (which works out at just over 7% pa compared to a mere 4.4% for the endowment alone).....under construction.... I think you may have timed it about right. A 5% fall today should confirm that.
4.4% from your endowment? Do you still have it and when was it started? Mine was started in 1985 for £45 per month and is on track to meet its £30K target - a return of 5.71% tax-free over 25 years. Currently performing slightly better at around 7%.

I'M FED UP WITH COMPUTERSHARE AND SELFTRADE! I've just checked with Selftrade and the person I've just spoken to says they DO NOT reimburse the cost of obtaining a share certificate from Computershare, in order to transfer to them. That's NOT what I was told a couple of week's ago! They only reimburse the cost of transferring electronically. I give up! I'm now putting bets on the certificate getting lost in the post. My brain hurts!0 -

Ok mate, have you filled in a Withdrawal form and sent it back to Computershare with their fee?? This is the only way you will get a cert. If not ask Computershare for a CREST Transfer Form, thats the one you need.
If your still having problems email web.queries@computershare.co.uk and mark your email as a COMPLAINT and it will be seen to although they take a while to look into these things.:rotfl:0 -
Thanks catz1ct, eventually received share certificate on Saturday and have sent it on to Selftrade. Not happy with Selftrade though, as mentioned before, for mis-informing me that they do reimburse the £12 fee for obtaining share certificate, when they don't (only electronic transfers). Still, hopefully it's all sorted out now.0

I guess if nothing else, it means I won't have to decide whether to sell or not - not experienced in this share holding thing and everytime it rises we start wondering whether we should sell or not.
Mortgage doesn't end until something like 2015 so I guess we're in no hurry and we probably need to wait until the ombudsman rules on our appeal before making any decisions anyway.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -

I know - the last few days have not been great at all
The only comforting thing, I suppose, is the fact that the whole stock market is in the same boat with the current turmoil and in light of that the standard life shares haven't fallen too sharply. I've no idea when this is going to pass though so it is worrying - still in it for the long haul too though (although I do think Milarky timed things to perfection :T !)
