CityWire - Comment about Standard Life's interest in buying Resolution
A mixed reception, which may have impacted on the share price recently.0 -
A nice 14p rise today
. Rather suddenly, in the afternoon.
Pearl eyes Resolution bid
I personally hope that this stops Standard Life's bid for Resolution. The worst case scenario IMHO is that out company overpays in a bidding war.0 -

Hi Baby boomer,
It's nice to see it finally on the move up but I'm not going to get too carried away about it as I remember either last week or the week before one crazy day where it jumped up 23p one morning and then by the end of the day it was only up 2p so fingers crossed this leap holds up by the end of today. Thanks for all the info about the Resolution bid :T
Regards

Thanks Michelle, it's a pleasure
. I agree that it's nothing to get carried away about.
Ironically Resolution tried to buy Standard Life on the cheap (way below £2 a share  ) before the flotation. Now the boot is on the other foot.0 -
Never having had shares before, following Standard Life's shares ups and downs is new to me. Seeing that the SL shares have dropped to 2.76 (at time of writing this) is this downward trend because of the Northern Rock situation, the USA mortgage situation, a general downward trend or a mixture of all of them and is it likely to be a looooong time, or just a long time before they pick up?
The share price is affected by all of the above plus the possibility that Standard Life might get involved in buying another company.
No one can say how long it will last - otherwise we would be rich
Its worth remembering though that due to the nature of their business an insurance company owns lots of shares in other companies so if the stock market is going downwards, insurance companies tend to as well..

Indeed. We should be grateful that a serious banking crisis has left the stock market relatively unscathed - so far.
Even though financial shares like SL have taken a bigger hit than others.0 -

Well the rise today sustained until the market closed - up 16.25p overall
Of course it could go right back down again tomorrow but I think that's the first time in a while it's made decent gains in a day and held onto them til close of business.
