Thursday pm - Wall Street Falls -> FTSE falls -> Standard Life falls 8p to 276p
Will scupper the Standard Life bid for Resolution.
Raising the Standard Life share price to 284p+ could win Resolution for Standard - The Scotsman Thursday am
But even the Scotsman recognised that Standard's rise to 284p was only because the market thought the Standard bid had already failed.
This subsequent Wall Street slide after the Scotsman's article has probably put paid to the [over-]ambition of Mr. Crombie & our director friends in Lothian Road.

I bought at 270p and sold two weeks at the beginning of last month for 299p, glad I lost my nerve when I did. I was only ever looking at them as a medium position, ended up being far shorter than I had planned, had hoped for a resurgence to around 315p. Never mind. Chart attached hope it's of interest to someone.Save some money for a rainy Dave!0

Thanks r_d.
I still believe Standard is decent value at these levels, as the stand alone company that we originally bought into.0 -
Does anyone have any idea how long Standard Life/Pearl/Resolution have got before a decision has to be made?0

Oh dear, SL not looking good today
Is this fallout from Resolution? or someother issue?
Lightbulb moment: 10 March 060 -
It's due to the fact that Standard is refusing to back down quietly from its Resolution bid

Desperate times.
There are also wider credit crunch issues affecting financial stocks. Which is another reason for Standard to lay off.
And this sort of amateurish behaviour does shareholders no favours:

Thanks BB - they do appear to be a prize bunch of muppets.
What do you think the chances of the SL price returning to 350 if the Resolution bid fails? ...and if it doesn't? :rolleyes:Lightbulb moment: 10 March 060 -

Another fall to 260p
Now down 5% on a year ago.
And the reason?
Herald - Standard set to up Resolution bid to 766p per share
Our board has lost the plot - as our share price unfortunately demonstrates.
I felt like throttling them when the kept on refusing to demutualise. And now that feeling is returning.
I've always enjoyed the delights of Edinburgh at any time of year, and April 2008 (the AGM) is starting to look like a date as long as EasyJet are doing a reasonably priced flight
Let me know your concerns, and I'll raise them directly with the management.
