Can I return a car I just bought?
Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice.
I went to look at a car today and bought it. I was very unsure at the time of buying it, because although it's a lovely car, I can't see the bonnet and I would prefer to. The guy said that he'd take me out for a practice drive when I go to pick it up next week as he reckons I'll get used to it, and it seemed so easy at the time. But once I was back on the bus going home I realised that I really don't want the car because of the steep slope. I paid by cheque, and they still have the car. Can I cancel this?

You'll soon get used to it really. Most cars these days have slopy front ends - nakes them more friendly for when you hit a pedestrian0

just break a flying lady off the bonnet of the first Rolls Royce you come across and have it attached to your new motor
Seriously though, you'll get used to it in no time.0 -
Most new cars these days are have a cab forward design which means that it is impossible to see the extremities of the bonnet unless you lean forward when parking. The reason for this is part aerodynamics and part safety with longer and lower crush zones.
A large % of the population (normally women - not being sexist here) think that you should be able to see the bonnet and they sit at an unsafe distance from the steering wheel/airbag and also have their elbows so tightly crooked that they lack space to make rapid emergency manoeuvres. The man without a signature.0 -
We had an Aygo for 4 years and then bought a Corsa, when i took it out for a test drive, it was great, but then just after we bought it i hated it, it felt 'floaty' if you see what i mean, i felt like you that i had made a big mistake and hated it. Within a week i was fine with it, your brain just needs to get used to it, give it time, and you will get into trouble if you cancel your cheque, you have signed a binding contract to buy the car. Unless its faulty you have to buy it.
My last 4 cars have sloping bonnet and i wouldnt have anything else.
Like I say, give it a bit of time, then you'll love it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I dont know what your actual rights are here but you could always just phone the garage and explain and see what they say0

Thanks for what you've all said so far. I don't know my rights, so don't know what, if anything I can do about it. I am considering emailing them to say something but not sure exactly what to write yet.Titch0

Tell them you don't feel comfortable with your choice after giving it some thought. Would you be willing to look at an alternative they may have?0
