You contradict yourself in the letter:

Hmm, how should I word it? The courier had the standard form where you sign to say goods arrived in good quality. Apart from the mess, there didn't appear to be a problem as the tree was wrapped. I signed, but mentioned next to my signature that a big mess was made.

Sawing the bottom of the tree isn't an option unfortunately. I really did need a 4ft tree.

why isn't it an option?
that would be the most sensible thing to do IMHO.
I can see you would be a bit fed up at not receiving the size you ordered but I think your making a far bigger deal of this than is necessary...

It isn't an option for two reasons - I can't cut the trunk and I can't fit it in the only 'safe' spot I have. I have a baby-proofed area specially and was going to put it there.

I know it'd be the most sensible option, like buying a tree in person is the most sensible option, but unfortunately neither are options for me at the moment.

Why can't you cut it? it would take a matter of seconds to do, if you can't do it then surely your hubby or a friend/neighbour could manage, then problem solved and everyones happy

Long and complicated story. I can't do it, because it would involve going outside. Doubtful that OH would agree to do it - he just doesn't particularly want a Christmas tree. I don't have any family/friends/neighbours - I moved down here for OH's job, and I've not been able to make friends with anyone.

You moved to suit your hubby's work needs and he can't take 2 minutes to chop a bit off a Christmas tree!!! nice, selfish much?

Hope you get something sorted xx

Lots of folk buy on line, not really the OP's fault they sent the wrong size, annoying but could be solved. They shouldn't have left a mess for her to clean up either but I don't suppose they really care

Because I wanted a Christmas tree but am unable to get to somewhere that sells them.

Why do people immediately take the opposite view of OP's these days? It seems everyone is up for an argument just for the sake of it.

    Bottom line:

She ordered something and something different arrived (4ft tree got a 6ft tree, if she wanted 6ft she would have ordered that)

Items are missing from her order (not enough soil)

The items was not sufficently packaged and so left a muddy mess on the OP's carpet.

I believe she has every right to complain!!

PS I wouldn't have have taken a picture of my husband next to the tree, i'd have used a tape measure or something, as your husbands pic is no doubt been photoshopped/used as a dartboard etc as we speak!!
