I recently upgraded from 2 meg to 6g meg broadband free with BT Yahoo. After lots of problems before the activation period, it seemed to work fine and was def quicker.
A friend told me that the speed of the service was def not 6meg and ran some speed tests which have come back as 2 meg. Told BT about this and I was told that they had found a line fault and would get back to me. Had a missed call on the landline today (why do they call the landline when you spec tell them to call your mobile???) and a chap left a message to say they it was bt broadband assurances dept who were going to get in touch with my isp direct (BT Yahoo) and get them to run some tests before sending out an engineer. When I call BT Yahoo they know nothing about this.
If my speed is quicker than it was before its means that BT were providing a bad service as it was obviously 1 meg broadband I was receiving not 2 meg.
Anyone have any stories to tell about slow speed with BT Yahoo broadband and how they got the issues sorted?
Thanks all.

please watch out for this as bt may charge you for an engineer, make sure they dont charge for for sending one out!! i worked for bt myself and alot of the time it was not until they have received the bill they knew there charges!money.....gimmie gimmie gimmie!!!!0

cheers for that. Ive been charged (and refunded!) a BT engineer call out charge before so ive logged the complaint on their website and asked them to confirm that I wont be charged a call out. Apparently there is a fault on the line so hopefully I wont be charged but you never know!I love this site :beer:0

google it if you dont know what it means, but long and short of it is that if there are lots of people using your exchange you will have a lower speed available to you. It is highly unlikely that you wille ver actually get 6mb, the contract only says UP TO 6mb - the guaranteed minimum speed (if there is one) will be something like 512kbps.
Best bet - get away from BT Yahoo - BT, BT Yahoo, AOL are all crap, and offer far less service than other ISP's who are often cheaper, i mean charging people for sending out an engineer to fix THEIR problem is a bloody disgrace, and only companies like BT and AOL actually have the nerve to do it0 -
It's funny but if you visit various forums, you will find that a lot of BT customers are experiencing the same drop in Broadband speed (myself included - a drop from 2MB following an ADSL upgrade to 0.5MB).
Have a look at the Digital Spy forums for some of many similar stories

There are too many incidences of this problem countrywide over the last few weeks for this to be just coincidence. However, if you mention this to BT they deny any connection.:rolleyes:0 -

What time did you test your connection??
my 16MB line varies greatly! during peak times (eg all afternoon and evening) my speed is clocked at between 2 and 6 MB but during the morning period (10.00-13.00) i get the full 16MB. this is mainly due to the amount of peroply on the network. try checking your connection at a quiet period like during the day when most people are at work(difficult i know if you are yourself at work..) to see what it is.

I have always done my speed tests at the same time each day, so I am comparing like for like.
Up to three weeks ago I was getting a fairly steady 2MB, then all of a sudden on 6 June, my connection dropped to about 0.2MB and stayed there for a week. Over the next 2 weeks it steadily got better and reached 0.5MB 2 days ago. After a rant on the phone to BT it miraculously increased to 0.8MB. I'm still looking for the other 1MB.0 -

AOL have leased services from BT thats why when you sign up it states A BT line must be available to connect, so they dont have the know how to fix telephone line problems as they are not a Telecommunications company as BT are.
Actually heres the bumph.
Orders for all offers must be accepted by 02/07/06. Min 12 months contract. New AOL customers only. Credit card/bank details required. Subject to BT Line and availability.
