People........ WGA isnt a mandatory install, put your Windows Update on Manual and select the updates that you want to install (and leave out Windows Genuine Advantage).
This desktop runs Windows as it was shipped in 2001 plus two updates. (And is genuine,

finally got my hotmail back and secure sites - i restored the computer to factory state as it wouldnt let me restore any further than when the wga had been added - i then put my automatic updates to 'inform me before updating' - fingers crossed now..........0

Fingers crossed is right. I got mine back for one day. If Microsoft put it on - why can't they take it off? And - once it's gone why does it come back again??"When you want something said, ask a man.

Plus, it will not allow me to access updates whilst in this state."When you want something said, ask a man.

can you please take me through steps to change to "inform me before updating" once I can access? Thanx!"When you want something said, ask a man.

S'okay. I've sorted that one out. However, you cannot download updates whilst WGA is in situ. Well it wont let my computer anyways, and I've been validated and authenticated (steady on!!)."When you want something said, ask a man.

Wow, I'm a busy bee today!! Right, this is what I did. Discovered (don't ask me how I don't know) that WGA (rude word) was installed on 1 June. I did a system restore for 28 May. On restart was then asked if I wanted to activate my Windows, which I did. Eureka! (for now). Although I don't hold out much hope for tomorrow. May keep my computer on for ever and ever and ever ........................"When you want something said, ask a man.

ITS FREE 0870 6010100 unless you have dodgy copy of Windows.
Ask MS if MSN is affected by the WGA tool.
Microsoft themselves have said 20% of those they themselves claim are not genuine are, well actually they said it the other way round, 80% are rightly diognoised. Their have also been threats by Microsoft that in September, computers running non genuine XP may be shut down, which would make files impossible to save or copy etc, which they have since retracted, but could still happen in a different month. I gather 2 court cases have been filed against Microsoft as WGA was sent as a crucial security update, which it certainly isn't.
My problem with WGA, is I like many others purchased a laptop with an XP licence which I broke & when I tried to transfer my licenced copy of XP from one laptop to another it was easier to buy a pirated copy rather than go through Microsoft who I had phoned in the past, but were unhelpful. Now 4 years later they bring us WGA & do I still have my original licence, like hell I do & I refuse to buy another copy of XP, as I have already paid for one.
WGA is easy to hack & to be honest in many ways has taught me to run my laptop far more efficiently. I can download all microft updates & progames I want or don't want, in the way I want. I've also found out about tricks Microsoft has been playing on me, like collecting information through Media Player which I still run but without Microsoft collecting my information.
WGA seems to be paying for VISTA, which hardly seems fair or right, if you have previously purchased as many have.0 -
