So sorry to upset you. This is my first experience. But I'm sure it's a piece of cake to a techie like you. Never heard of WGA, (and am still none the wiseer) so that's why I'm particularly happy this website exists, and so, I suspect ,are a lot of others who have gained invaluable advice and help.

Please dont try and use reverse psychology, I cant understand why a user from 2004 still cannot use a search fuction.

P.S Im also not upset, quite chirpy actually :)

Does anybody do any reasearch theese days, how many posts have been dedicated to Windows Genuine Advantage I dont understand why people dont search the forums, its beyond me.

ITS FREE 0870 6010100 unless you have dodgy copy of Windows.

Ask MS if MSN is affected by the WGA tool. :)

By the same token, why is an MSEr writing 'ITS FREE' next to a 0870 number?

    A FREE activation number is 0800 018 8354.

Its easy to get rid of this reminder. First of all if you have automatic updates turned on then instead of automatically installing use custom install in dialog box that appears when updates are downloaded, and dont install wga tool. If you have installed it either right click on star in system tray and use setting there not to see reminder at computer startup (though you can't get rid of the star in system tray) ....OR do a system restore to time before you did auto update and use the above custom install to NOT install the wga tool, you will be asked if you want no more reminders to install wga tool ...agree to this!

Free to activate at up to 8 pence per minute? I'll take the free number every time.

Seriously though, take it easy on boofy.

Find the serial number on the Laptop or Desktop via the MS Sticker thats on the side or underneath of the PC then just ring them and they will talk you through a few simple steps.

I spoke - at length! - to microsoft (in India). You can ask them to call you back. In a nutshell problem resolved next time I logged on a message came up asking me to validate on line which I did - and hey presto!! Little icon gone and I can log on to secure sites - UNTIL TODAY. It's BACK!! Have emailed them asking to call me and to GET THIS SORTED OUT. She told me that you are unable to access secure sites because of this, which is a relief to know in one way. When I spoke to them yesterday I confirmed whether I needed to delege the wgatray.exe file from my computer and was assured that I didn't need to do that. Do you think the press should get to know about this? They are flooding computer with this warning to weed out the counterfeit ones in order for them to buy a product key code. It's a crock of pooh!!
